Brad Bird has been working for years trying to get The Iron Giant animation film released on Blu Ray but Warner Brothers has been hesitant to do so. The WB negotiated to release a bare bones br, but Brad wants to do it with plenty of extras. He has an article about such here:

Brad Bird Fighting for THE IRON GIANT Blu-Ray Release ? GeekTyrant

He was asking that anyone interested in seeing this project happen give the WB a tweet or e-mail letting them know your interest in it. This was supposed to have been released two years ago but Warner has been stalling it continually.

The studios... they ruin a LOT of dvd/blu-ray releases. Not to mention format wars :facepalm

Someone like Brad Bird should just be able to snap his fingers and get it released.

I got the impression from the article that the studio is OK with releasing a blu-ray...they just don't want to pay for any extras. That seems to be the sticking point. Maybe Bird should try to kickstarter some funding for the extras? I doubt the studios will budge. The initial release of the movie didn't make enough for the bean counters to want to risk throwing more money at a shrinking market. I love this movie dearly, but I can't fault the bankers for being unwilling to throw good money after bad.

It saddens me how many wonderful films get stuck in limbo over disagreements like this. Meanwhile, the property they are arguing about slowly rots in a film canister, gets pirated all over the internet and ultimately depreciates in quality, value and mind share until it is forgotten altogether. Sorry fate for high art.

Warner Brothers needs to pony up and give us more than just bare bones. Hell, they gave a few special features for the Steve McQueen film Bullitt, including the Starz documentary about film editing. If they can do that for a film from the 1960s, they can do it for an amazing animated film like The Iron Giant.

Considering the stuff they throw onto BR these days it made no sense that they'd not want to put this one out. I think it was the studio just wanting to be cheap.

Art book? If that book is not available separately I thinknit is one of those rare occasions that i will buy a special edition. I can do without that small action figure and the mondo cards. But art book of IG? Must ... have ...

EDIT: Yes, the art book will be available separately with a release date set for august.

Wait, this wasn't on blu yet?! Doesn't everyone widely acknowledge this is an outstanding movie? Is WB just grouchy?

Help a millionaire director fight his employers so we can benefit???............blah:sick

It's called an ulterior motive....dig a little deeper and you will find what BB really wants from WB;)

In other news....I loved Iron Giant, but I'd rather see a live action CGI version before a BR version.
