Help/advice needed: Hiro's Sword Hilt re-wrapping

I bought a replica Chen off ebay a while back, and now have the necessary symbols for the hilt. I have to buy the wrapping material to rewrap the handle and I'm set. The problem is: has anyone done one of these? I'm looking for hints/tips/tricks to wrapping the handle. Usually the pics I see are of only one side of the hilt, so it's hard to figure out how it was done.

I used that site when I was trying to figure out how to do the grips on Reinhart's guns from Blade II. The most important thing is getting the hishigami right. Without them the folds in the ito don't stay on the right angle and you don't get perfect diamonds down the middle.

Probably the best site I've seen on wrapping Japanese hilts: http://pages.prodigy.net/tlbuck/tsuka/tsuka.htm

Hopefully that might help.

Good site--thanks for the link! Now I just need to figure out how they did the funky two-section wrap and the pieces up the narrower sides. Do you suppose the wrap was all one piece or several separate pieces?

Usually its all one piece, just a really long lol. All I can say is you have to have patience with it man, its a slow process when you first try it. Good luck!
