Are you talking about a regular stormtrooper helmet. My 2 the trim just slipped over the lip and held nicely. What type of trim are you using is a "U" trim?
Its a TIE helmet so U trim doesent look right. I'm using a kinda PVC car door edge strip. It doesent hold it's shape too well and there's nothing to grip onto on the helmet.
