Heir to the Empire Disney + first film

I sincerely doubt this will happen. Not only would it have to be changed significantly to fit into the Disney Canon but Han, Luke, Leia, and Mara Jade were all rumored to have a cameo/ reunion at the climax of the Boba Fett show and that never came.

This sounds like a fan rumor the way the article is written, not to mention I doubt Disney would openly embrace a storyline they wholesale jettisoned almost immediately after purchasing Lucasfilm. In their eyes it might be an acknowledgement of failure and if we've learned anything since 2012 that's likely never going to happen.

Maybe if it was animation....can't see live action having to recast everyone.

As for the storyline...meh...they said they were looking to bring in EU things where they could.

They'll likely cherry pick things they like and retcon it together to a "whatever" result (as is the norm for these number of years). Honestly, I never cared much for any of the EU stuff to really be bothered by it. Rogue One was the most egregious example though, where a ship from KotOR was directly lifted to use as the hammerhead/rammer ship (the ship would be 4000 years old at that point)---but again, it's whatever. No one ultimately cares.

I do wonder how they plan to make it the cap of multiple series though. Obi wan is dead, Boba and Mando weren't in Heir, Cassian is dead, Ahsoka would still be around I guess, but she didn't exist when it was written....But trying to make that an Avengers type flick as a capstone won't work. A standalone thing that comes after the fact...i could buy that. But, i'd have to imagine this isn't a legit story. Putting those still alive in it would mess it up completely.

Though if they change it that much, maybe they could add Daphne Zuniga to the cast to lead Vespa gang ;)

That story would be so outside the bounds of what they've set up for the star wars cinematic story following ROTJ, that even if they have something in works, it would be so changed from that original story, that there's no point even considering it "based on" heir to the empire. best they could do is say they're working a story set in "the same time period as heir to the empire if that were even a thing". lol

they've blazed their path so solidly separately from pre-disney star wars, that they need to just keep going with their own sort of stuff, or straight up go "hey, we're going to go multiverse of madness/comic book rules, and just make a bunch of stuff from the old EU that's not officially cannon"

I would believe that they're moving to a version of Heir, but its obviously not a direct adaptation of the novels. They've introduced Thrawn, the Noghri, Weyland, and Mount Tantiss, so they're clearly cherry picking from those books, but this article is highly speculative.

Disney killed STAR WARS. I'd rather just re-read the Zahn books than see them bungle an adaptation in their continued attempts at desperate nostalgia key-jangling.
I've got the original movie trilogy and that's all I need. Everything after is just bad fanfic. I think the original Zahn books are a lot better than the later ones where he was trying to fit into Disney's new continuity.

In today's world of endless corporate "content", I've come to the conclusion that it's far better to appreciate what you have rather than constantly demanding more, more, more. The inevitable result of this pure greed is a bunch of zombie-franchises that are creatively bankrupt, and drained of every ounce of passion and artistry. Which is exactly what's happened.

STAR WARS, STAR TREK, and so very many others already had their time, and were truly great in that time. We won't see their like again, and they will never again be what they once were. Enjoy the memories. I'm more than happy to revisit the old stuff, and there are literally decades' worth of old material to be experienced.

I now live in a world where a Spider-Man and Batman movie have come out within months of each other, and yet I have literally no interest whatsoever. I'm much happier reading old comics rather than watching people who don't understand, respect, or care about the material have their way with it in increasingly-insulting and stupid ways.

And so it is with STAR WARS. The real thing is dead and gone--murdered in unforgivable and irreversible ways--, and now we're in the phase of "content" ranging from average-to-awful being endlessly pumped out to keep the franchise going until it slowly and painfully becomes unprofitable.

Disney has been okay with non-canon stuff on D+. What If, and Visions....

What If is not "non-canon". All those stories are part of the MCU. They just exist in separate universes than the ones we've seen...so far. Its pretty evident from the Dr. Strange trailer that they are incorporating some of those alternate universe stories.

I’m just wondering if it is true, I figured ahsoka series was going to be the closet thing we got to a thrawn trilogy

Id always assumed that the ”big event” thats the culmination of the various Disney Plus series would be a loose adaptation of the Thrawn trilogy. Or part of it anyways. The timeline would match up, and I would guess that Ahsoka series will have her track down Thrawn and find that he’s discovered the lost Dreadnought fleet. I should crack those books again…

I freakn love this trilogy. Just reading your post gets me excited about it

Heir to the Empire was great, but why do we need it in live action? Can't some things be left in their original form unscathed? I guarantee our individual visions of what that story looked like in our heads while reading it are a million times better than anything Lucasfilm could or would do with it in live action. No more cherry-picking please! I enjoyed Thrawn in HTTE and in Rebels to some extent but the more I think about it the more I don't really have much of a desire to see him in anything else.

Keep in mind the calamity that occurred with TBOBF and the great success of the Mandalorian. New content with new characters has less established expectations to ruin.

I could see it being a reimagining and reworking of Heir to the Empire rather than being a literal adaptation. I doubt it’ll even be called as such.

There’s no doubt Thrawn will finally be making a live-action appearance and they’ve laid the groundwork by introducing Tantiss, the Noghri, ability to deepfake the Big Three, and other elements as mentioned above. I suspect Thrawn is going to have a big role to play in cloning the Emperor (using magic Grogu Force blood), creating Snoke, helping lay the groundwork for the First Order, etc etc. and will presumably die at some point, since he was nowhere to be seen in the ST.

I wouldnt’t be surprised if Thrawn was the one that intervened and saved Grogu (if Grogu didn’t save himself) and stashed him on Mt. Tantiss.

Anyway, it won’t be a word for word adaptation of the Zahn books but it’ll be as close as we’ll ever get, I suspect.
