Went to wally world and came across this concept snowy figure. Anyone see this before? Haven't seen it discussed or posted elsewhere. This has the more oriental feel to it.

I actually like this design alot

What are ya'lls thoughts?

I saw this a few days ago as well.
I like the helmet. Looks like a cool cross between a regular stormtrooper helmet with a scout visor and vaderesque outer cowl.

Everything is kinda meh to me. Doesnt really carry the imperial feel in my eyes. Especially the "skirt". I always liked the kama look of the snowtroopers. This is kinda weird.

This concept snowtrooper was rendered by Joe Johnston and published for general consumption in "The Empire Strikes Back Sketchbook". They were seen in various git r done poses around the wheels of the pre-legged AT-AT (a vehicle resurrected virtually unaltered as the A6 Juggernaut in Episode III) the idea was very Asian-influenced, and the in sketches they looked like white samurai. Wish I had my old book to scan, but I haven't seen it in 25 years. Cool action figure!

I agree. Not a fan of the skirt, but the rest is very Samurai.
I dig it.

Dig the Samurai look as well, but the dress or skirt(when does a skirt officially become a dress anyway?) is just sad.

As far as I know the Juggernaut came from the SW Roleplaying Game.
The "wheeled" AT-AT's in the ESB Sketchbook and Art of ESB have tank treads and look more like a Cobra Hiss toy.

Switchblade, good call on the first source! This was fun to dig up. Here are the photos. They appeared in a few books. There are a few other conceptual designs as well, most are in between the Japanese-style seen here and the final version, but closer to the final version.

First, from The Empire Strikes Back Sketchbook (Johnston, Joe and Nilo Rodis-Jamero. First Edition. New York: Ballatine Books, 1980).

These three are from the concept art for the Imperial walker.

Correct, the Cobra HISS-style walker seen here in the ESB Sketchbook is also featured in the old West End Games Star Wars Roleplaying Game. This same drawing is in "Elite Armored Unit" section of the WEG Star Wars Imperial Sourcebook (Slavicsek, Bill [as Development & Editing]. First Printing. Honesdale, PA. West End Games, 1989.)

This is an early concept for the Imperial scout walker:

These next three are concepts of the snowtrooper costume, as the following photo describes.

That finishes off the material from the ESB Sketchbook.

Now here is some more Johnston and Rodis-Jamero art from the The Art of Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (Formerly titled The Art of the Empire Strikes Back) (Bulluck, Vic and Valerie Hoffman, First Revised Edition. New York. Ballatine Books, 1997)

It's considered a dress if there's a top part attached to it in one piece. A skirt is a bottom, like a pair of pants.

But anyway. I'm also liking the samurai look. :]

This is cool! Have to agree that the "skirt" looks a bit off. Maybe that's why they adopted the long "kama" look in the final designs, and on Galactic Marines. Cool find, nonetheless! :)

I love this version of the Snowtrooper, I really wish they had gone this way. Or at least used some of the details in the ESB snowtrooper.

That was always my favorite snowtrooper design! It looks like a futuristic samurai. I used to sketch pictures of him wielding a pair of lightsabers. I'd like to make this costume someday.
