Yeah, the notion that they would be "mic tips" is not from inside the Star Wars universe but from a (now debunked) theory about the real-world part.
The original part may look like a microphone but it is most likely an insert for a water faucet, maybe even acquired from the same hardware store as the drawer tracks used on the "rifles" that people sometimes still refer to as "windshield wipers" ...
the other thing is had the speaker been up front or coming out the aerators there would most certainly be feedback out the speaker.
I tried everything. My 24" grape isn't fitting it lol
I have 23" how do you think that would fit?
Itll probably be a tight fit. I thought I was the bands that were restricting so I took those off and it's the bucket itself. Guess I wasn't meant to be a stormtrooper lol
Several people in the 501st sell replacement mic tips with speakers in them. It appears to be pretty common to have the speakers in the front.the other thing is had the speaker been up front or coming out the aerators there would most certainly be feedback out the speaker.
Well.. I did once in a hardware store over here find a faucet aerator with an insert that resembled the real part a great deal. It's a Scandanavian-made aerator for the connector hose to a compact dishwasher. Exact make unknown, but that's the closest match that's been made. I helped my parents build our house from an early age, so I was already fiddling with plumbing fixtures before I ever got into costuming. I recognized them as aerators the first time I actually saw a close-up shot of the helmet.
As someone with a 60cm skull, that's depressing. I might just cancel my Amazon order now, since it was intended for Christmas, and with this information I'd rather wait and buy it in person rather than wind up with something unreturnable in a couple months.
For those who pre-ordered from Walmart.ca, check your order. They just cancelled June because their stock was. It due to arrive in a timely manner. I reordered.
You would think that they would ask before cancelling your order, but obviously not.

Can one or more of those of you who already have one of these in hand confirm what it looks like I'm seeing in the pictures? From all angles but side-on, the side tube indents look evenly spaced. But side-on, it looks like they start getting further apart as you get back toward the earcaps. Not an optical illusion? Going by a good photo of the actual prop helmet...
...it looks like they're evenly spaced all the way back. Is this something the obsessive in me is going to have to fix, along with the sharpness of the rest? -_-

Here is mine, I weathered it to look like a Sandtrooper. Since I'm just gonna display it I didn't worry about filling the seams. This really is a nice helmet for the money.
