Hasbro Black Series Rogue One Stormtrooper Helmet

Great news! FedEx just pushed back the delivery date of my helmet another day because apparently they're just taking their sweet time. This is seriously the worst.

I was at my local target today and they had one helmet jammed too tightly between shelves. Even though I was there to scope the blasters, I was so tempted as I had been thinking about modding mine. I hope these stay available for awhile.

Sorry to go on a little ramble here down memory lane, but I really must hand it to Hasbro for this helmet. It takes me back to when I was young and remember seeing what must have been a Don Post stormy in the window of a costume shop on a family road trip through California. I have this vivid memory of being absolutely captivated by that helmet in that window. I wanted nothing more than to get out of the car and visit that shop.

That one event must have really influenced the way I am today, and the reason I am a part of this community in the first place. Now I'm quite a bit older and I've got that one thing I remember wanting to just SEE, in my hands. I can't help but almost get emotional. I am so thankful Hasbro has enabled me to relive my childish excitement, and moreso I'm so happy that kids these days may have the ability to share the wonders of the Star Wars universe as I did when I was younger.

What's even better? This helmet actually looks like a Stormy, unlike the awful cartoon of a helmet that coveted Don Post was in my childhood.

Thanks Hasbro, and thanks to all who are a positive part of this Community. I feel like a child again.

Great sentiment. Being a former collector, I have a lot of mixed feelings towards Hasbro. This for real makes up for all the goofy Stormtrooper stuff over the years. I have tried making a pepakura helmet a few years ago, it came out wonky. An accurate $80 bucket is amazing.

This thing really is amazing. Its so close that I understand some of the knit pics, but the fact that Hasbro pulled off something so close to what most consider a prop replica, is really pretty damn awesome. I feel like because of the molded in details and the glossy look of the abs, it looks like what an "in world" trooper helmet is supposed to be like. It seems more realistic that those I owned in the past.

So you're saying it came out screen accurate? LOL

Drwho, I'm planning ahead since I am guessing the Amazon one will not be available or when it is will be $$$. They have one listed now for $299. :\

Yeah I just looked again and they have them back for ordering at 79.99, but temporarily out of stock. I looked yesterday and there was one seller for the $299. Lol I will probably still paint this one since I've already gutted it.

what plastic is this made of? im thinking PETG. superglue worked on a test area. hot glue works okay for larger dome-to-back gluing but if youre really trying to pull it apart itll come apart. its definitely not ABS.

I think they said in the video that it was ABS. But it could probably be co-moulded with other plastics for the trim.

There are many alloys of ABS with different ratios of A, B and S, where the last is for Styrene.
One way to check for styrene to do the "acetone test": dip a q-tip in acetone and rub it in a small test area. If it smears then it is a plastic based on styrene.
When I have tested PETG it has clouded but not dissolved. Many other plastics would not be affected at all. Of course with white plastic it could be hard to see the result.
(I collect also vintage computer keyboards, and we sometimes do the acetone test to test if keys are ABS or a more resilient plastic that is harder and would not yellow over time)

These things are such a deal at $80, I'm actually considering buying a second, although I have no idea what I would do with 2, lol.
