Has anyone used this 2 part thin plastic for a shell? Instead of Fiberglass.

It looks and sounds promising. I hate working with FG. Also, FG can flex. Conversely, this stuff claims "no sagging" so that would help ensure mold integrity and no deformation of the casting.

that looks a lot like smooth-on's plasti-paste, which I use regularly. I think I have 4 empty gallon containers in my basement right now!

the plasti-paste is great stuff. it needs to go on thicker than fiberglass to get the same strength, but it has no particular smell and doesn't stick to everything / make an enormous mess.

No experience with that one, but I have used Smooth On 'Shell Shock' and a few other companies similar products and IMO they are JUNK overall! They are OK for the most very basic application like a mother mold support, but they are brittle and hardly something to consider as a replacement for fiberglass in general... From the ones I have used anything less than say 1/4" thick and you have to handle it like fine china...

If you want a cheap mother mold support material, go to Walmart and pick up a gallon of cheap Bondo and a quart of fiberglass resin, crack open the Bondo can and stir in the resin... Then weight it out and catalyze as normal... They are sold with two different peroxide catalyst but they work universally, since it's all polyester resin... You can always do a mixture of the two catalyst if you are paranoid... Should be about $30 out the door for the two, about half the price of the linked stuff... If you want a little more strength, get some 1/8" or 1/4" milled fiberglass and mix it into the mixture, it's pretty cheap in small amounts on Ebay...
