Has anyone made a Mr. Rogers trolley?

Wondering if anyone has built a Mr. Rogers trolley? Watching it on tv is one of my favorite childhood memories.

Since there's a toy available, you can just buy it.

Thanks I saw that when i was searching around but wasn't sure how accurate it was. In some of the pics I've looked at it appears to be made out of metal.

I started a Mister Rogers thread a few years ago with some good photos and discussion-

Looks like there were subtle variations to the train over the years. I'd love to build one some day. I guess the first step would be to decide what scale model railroad track was used.

There were three trolleys. The original was for the CBC program, and built by Bill Ferguson and Bob Hackborn.

The large Trolley that we are most familiar with was dubbed by production as "Trolley I". I believe that it was also built by the CBC folks. It was described by MRN director Paul Lally (himself a model railroader) as "near-G" scale. The motor was a chain link drive, likely custom. I have a note that the dimensions of the trolley body at 13" long, 4" wide, 6.5" high.

The small HO-scale unit was "Trolley II", and kitbashed/built by Paul and friend Tom Vitolo. This one was used on the model layout during the show's opening and closing sequences. It was not powered, since it had to move slow enough to match the camera movement. It was pulled by a very thin filament.

I was trying to track down who built the replica Trolley for the Tom Hanks film, but only got as far as the shop that made the miniature Trolley II replica. Whomever made the replica Trolley I would probably have some good insight. This is an in-progress photo that I came across once.

erekson101 What paint colors did you use? I'm planning an HO scale kitbash.
Nothing seriously color matched, just Rustoleum rattle cans off the shelf. real orange gloss, satin poppy red, gloss black, and satin yellow grass. I think my orange could’ve leaned to the yellow side more, it was too red.

Thank you! That really is gorgeous. The best replica I've seen....and makes me really wish I had a 3D printer.

Only one thing draws my eye to it immediately in shock and horror…

I have a G scale car I was gonna use as a base. One of the projects I wanted to get to.

The Trolley on the model layout was HO scale.

Not according to the Article....and my eye ball. While Im sure its mostly custom, and not exact. G scale is close as you will get commercially.

The model layout I am referring as HO is the buildings and streets used for the open and close of the show. This is referred to in the article as "HO neighborhood". You are correct that the larger Trolley used on set and operated by Fred would best be commercially achieved around G scale.

Oh the small one. Yes that was HO.
Typo on my part. Looks like they really did a number on it.

For the larger one...doesnt look like much will be usuable. Maybe parts of the roof. Ill get to my project one of these days.
