Has anyone made a Millenium Falcon chess table?

I believe they rebuilt the set for ESB, and not much of the ANH set pieces survived did they? They would seem to point to ESB, and if as Don says there's nothing to definitively peg it as ANH, I'd bet it was an ESB table.

I've always wanted one of these as well. i kept telling myself that one day I'd do the pieces themselves, but have never gotten around to it. :(

Here is the pic I dug up from 97 that PW put on Rebelscum.

Thanks Don. My bad.

Steve Sansweet told me today GWL told him personally the ANH piece "had vanished" and was not the one in his office, so if we can count on that detail, this must be the ESB piece.

I did also confirm today it's no longer on display at Disney, at least where it was. There are a couple Disney people now looking to see if they can track it down.

Philip-

GWL's recollections are typically muddied, but he may be correct here...

George has only the very top checkerboard playing surface in his office, with some of the figures mounted on them, a gift from Jon Berg and Phil Tippett. Though I'm not sure (I'll ask Jon next week when I see him), I think the top used as a mount was made for the display, as Jon & Phil animated the figures against black and not on the real table. I'm sure the real table never made it to the states from London...but I could be wrong.

As a side note: I noticed on the plaque for the Disney display it makes no mention of Jon Berg. As Jon is a friend, mentor, and all around decent human being, this really irritates me. Jon did the lead animation on that scene, with Phil taking care of the background characters. Additionally, it was Jon who was the lead animator on the Walkers for ESB, and Phil did the same for the Taun-tauns. Again, Phil seems to get credited for everything--probably because Jon is too nice a guy to say anything. The most egregious error I've ever heard of was with the signature series of the AT-AT for MR. Jon was contacted by the company (through me) because of his history with the AT-ATs, and made comments on the model. He was even hired by them to do the paint master, and then they turned around and had Phil do the signature series. A real slimeball thing to do in my opinion...

Wow, I never knew that about Jon and Phil. I learn something new every single day around here. Too bad Jon gets no credits for this amazing stuff indeed. :(

Wow, I knew Jon did the paintmaster, but had no idea on the credits. I think I'll get a sticker for my ATAT v2 plaque for Jon to sign.

That video's awesome. Is that Deckard's ground car and the Spinner from BR rusting out in the elements?

So they acquire props from all motion picture companies - I would have thought that it would be all MGM stuff. (y)thumbsup

Just wondering has anyone signed on to make this table? Just curious because I know that I could make this table out of fiberglass. Of course if someone has started making one I would not even consider making it just wondering where this project was :)

Honestly not sure at all what the cost wopuld be! lol I know I can make it but of course if I am just making one then the cost would be higher than making 3 or 4. Like I said if anyone else is making one I would not even attempt it however if no one else is I would be happy to look into the cost of something like this.

No one else has really stepped up in a definitive way, so I would say, please look into it. :thumbsup

Glad to see this project picking up some steam. There have been a few of us working on the complete monster set. Still have 3 more pieces that need to be sculpted. Supposedly rigormortis was working on one, but that hasn't come to fruition and he didn't reply to my last PM. I know SouthReplicas was up to doing the last couple, but was working on his 1:1 Grevious for a time.

If someone takes on the table, I'd be very interested in knowing more details.

Thanks,

Rob

I've been working on a plan to build kits for people to assemble.

I believe the Disney one is the ESB table. I seem to remember the lights on the SW one to be all amber. From a screen grab.

What I would have in mind would be to have the top one piece with the bottom pipe separate. The "keys" would not move up or down, they would all be molded solid to keep costs down. The lights would be attached and would light up.

Like I said if other people have plans for this table or they are working on one I will not do one myself, I don't want to step on anyones toes :)

Well, whomever decides to offer one would sell at least a handful I'm sure.
I'd love to have one of these in my home as a 'practical' table. My living room is black and silver with modern furniture, so a Dejarik table would sort of fit right in without screaming Star Wars. :lol

Here's that screen grab. All red on one side, all blue on the other. Different size cap too. If it's the SW one, then it's altered.

One thing I noticed is that the SW version has 2 joystick looking pieces on the control panel and the Disney one does not have them. Also it looks like the lights on the SW one were very flat without the chrome ring around them.

Also I am thinking I could make the keys seperate that way they would be attached later for a more movie screen look.

The wheels are turning guys and I can see what I can come up with if that would be OK with everyone involved.

I'm pulling out all stops for reference to build the table. I'm making some progress on better film reference, but still have nothing to show for it yet.

I'm not itching to make it myself, but will if nobody else can make an essentially perfect match, I plan to do it.

I've received a lot of email about it so there is definite interest.

As for the details and my preferences, top has to be beautiful fiberglass, lights have to be right, keys: I really like aluminum for them personally, and the final pieces, I'm hoping we'll get more detail from better photo reference.

I'm here to help make it happen in any way possible.

I'm about 3/4 done with my plans, any help would be great.

Not sure when I could build but would be glad to supply the blueprint for the group.
