Has anyone ever made a custom action figure playset?

I'd like to make a Castle Greyskull custom playset. Has anyone ever done something like this? What methods did you use? Did you make multiples? If I can make this portable and make multiples, I'll be psyched. I'd like to do it hinged like the old one, but bigger (for use with the new MOTU "Classics" line Mattel has going) and with a base piece that acts as the castle floor and some exterior terrain. Any advice going in would be fantastic!

Thanks in advance,

- Douglas

I have a bunch of old masters of the universe toys that are in nearly new condition if you're intersted! I don't really want them anymore, and I'm not asking anything for them really, except postage.:cool

If you still have some available, I would gladly pay to cover postage for these. I miss all my old ones. Please OM me.

Thanks

Actually, I've talked a bit about making a custom rebuildable playset over in my custom action figure thread, but its for more normal looking settings that I had in mind. But, I've also looked into methods of building dioramas for some action figure displays. It really depends if you're wanting to do the playset as a display piece only, or if you're intending to make it for your son to play with. If it's the latter, then you're probably going to need something that could withstand some abuse or something that can be rebuildable. But if its the former, wood and plaster sounds like the best options, especially if you're sculpting the gray skull castle. Of course, if you want to keep it sort of old-school, sculpt a postivie and then vacuum-form it. As I have yet to start any kind of building on any of my dioramas, I know that I am going to use foamcore boards to get the size right for the prototype, and then use possibly basswood and/or styrene plastic to assemble them.

Figure Realm is another place where there's been people who have posted dioramas in addition to the custom action figures. I recommend checking them out (though you'll have to go through the entire gallery, as they are not fully sorted in a clear accessible way. Yes, i made a g.i. Joe fort. And i am working on an avengers tower. And plan on doing a sinister six hq, hall of justics &
a legion of doom hq. I would like to swap notes with someone also. I would post pictures of the g.i. Joe fort but i lost it to a house fire. But i will post pics of the avengers tower soon, it is about half done.

Yes, and nearly done with it. I was a huge fan of the old Mego superhero figures as a kid, and now my 8 yr old son seems to have inherited my fandom. He has collected well over 45 of the 6" DC superheroes and villains and loves em'. So as a good dad, I decided to build him a "Watchtower" base. I've been working on it since February and it should be completed by the end of this month (photos to follow its completion). To give you a preview, it's 3 stories tall, made of PVC piping as its frame and foam posterboard encased in clear vinyl sheeting as the walls and floors to keep it durable for play. An elevator/transporter runs through each floor and the scenery/dioramas of each floor use glow-in-the dark and/or fluorescent materials lit up with cool black lights hidden in each levels' respective ceiling. I think I'm as excited as he is to get it done. I'll send photos soon as it's completed...

I only wish I learned how to Vac Form years ago. My kids are at the age where they want the expensive toys, but really don't know how to look after them properly. Making cheap plastic stuff sounds like a winner to me :)
