hi guys so i just found this Hitman - Silverballer Papercraft (Gun) silverballer_instructions_13.jpg
i was wondering has anyone on here built this and do you think with the new VCR act in the UK i could still have this as part of my costume as it is made of paper/card stock?
i think it looks so cool :)

I haven't built these, but I do know a bit about the heinous VCR act.If it's a 'realistic imitation firearm' and these look pretty good, doesn't matter what they are made out of then you can't have them out and about unless you can prove exemption. If they were blue or orange or some other ridiculous colour they would be classed as 'imitation firearms' and not quite so frowned on.
If you had these and only got them out within the confines of a con or the like you'd probably be ok.

the images shown on the website are't of the actual built gun Silverballer (Colt M1911) Papercraft - YouTube here is a link to what it looks like fully assembled i planned on doing it for a photo shoot and for halloween where i would more then likely be going on a pub crawl and then to a club. i was going to plug the end of the silencer with a bright orange tip
i was worried about it is ridiculous law so bloody stupid i might just say i'm a reinactor which technically i am lol

be easier to buy this and alter it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/toy-gun-/...nFigures_ActionFigures_JN&hash=item3f309e51dd how are these legal i understand with BB guns where they look really real but i think i'd laugh if a policemen told me off for carrying a gun made of photogaphic paper lol

Yep,still looks pretty good...though it seems a little undersized, unless that guy has big hands! If you go outside with it,I reckon you could be done. You could say you're a reinactor or similar but A.They'd want proof of some kind B.You still can't really got out with a 'rif' even then.
This VCR is the bane of my life,I've been collecting replicas since the '80's and this really knackers my chances of getting good stuff these days.

i know its a pain i mean considering they will cost next to nothing to make it might just be a have them for the night and if anyone says anything just bin them lol i thought it might just be a way to have a gun the right colour lol
sorry whats a 'rif' i dont think many people actually know the law so it would only be if a policeman saw it i dunno could just say i dint no it would be a problem as its made of paper i think its ridiculous as it doesnt look real lol

'rif' realistic imitation firearm.Yes you could only hope that sense would prevail if someone saw you with it.True, generally, only a cop knows the law as it stands, take your chances and see what happens.Good luck.

its funny im hopefully going to start training to be a police officer soon this is one of the few laws i think is really stupid though lol well i'll see how things go i will use it for cons and pictures and see what happenes over Halloween it is a while away lol cheers

I spoke to qa friend of mine who is a police officer and he said that in his opinion hed probably stop you and check, but once it was established they were paper then he would be ok with that as they are obviously not useable, but from a distance and to anyone who sees them and not close up they may be mistaken for real ones so you would hace to put something in the barrel like a bright red/pink/green ball so that if you pointed them at anyone they would se they were not real.

As to usingthem at a convention they would be fine as they would be within the confinds of the convention and he would imagine there would be a few other "dodgey weapons" there too as he put it

hope this helps

Why don't you paint the silencers a bright orange?

This way its so obvious that people wont think twice about the fact that they are orange????

In these dangerous times we live in, apart from the VCR act I'd be more worried that some loon saw you and phoned the police who would immediately send an armed response unit to the scene who would make sure they pointed some very real and very nasty firearms at you.

Despite what some people (wrongly) think the VCRA is nothing to do with ownership of RIFs IFs or anything else, it only refers to the manufacturing or import of such things. Therefore could you own this gun shaped object made out of paper? Yes you can. Can you make one of these gun shaped objects out of paper - well that is where the act comes in and basically says that you can not, unless you can provide an exemption as laid down in the act.

Having something gun like out in public, be it airsoft, blank firer, deac, paper model or whatever come under other laws altogether and as long as you are sensible you will have no problem. By sensible I mean keep your item covered up anywhere that the public may see it and if used at a con then check with the con regs first as to what they suggest/allow.
