Harvey Dent/Two Face Scarred Coin WIP (w/pics!)

So I know many people have done this and that there are molded versions for sale, but I think I'd like the feel and memories associated with making one by hand. I've ordered a double headed 1922 Peace Dollar that is on it's way. In the mean time I'm working on various ways of scarring/burning the coin to get that iconic look. Two Face has always been my favorite villain in the Batman universe, so I thought this would be the best prop to get started on. In any case I'm looking for advice on tools to use to scar it more...cleanly from anyone that's done this project. I'm having issues doing single scars that don't look like they've been ground down. Below are a couple of pics I took of one of the nickels I've practiced on. Also any suggestions on getting that burned look would be appreciated. Just taking a lighter to it seems to bring out the scars nicely but the rest of the face is relatively unscathed.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Perhaps a stupid suggestion but how about throwing some gasoline or lighter fluid over it and setting it on fire. See what happends, from a movie realistic point of view you would get what the coin would look like if it really had happend to it plus maye it's exactly what you are going for :)

I always liked the comic/gouged version.
Isn't this technically a federal offense though? Defacing American currency. :confused
