Han Solo Bust. Resin to Silicone.

Oh, yay, another thread that has devolved into another "Recasting is evil" thread. :(

As I have said before, I don't recast because it is against the rules, and I like being a member here too much to get band over something so stupid. However, it really ticks me off to hear folks on a forum where we recast "Original props" all the time, complaining about their stuff being recast. :(

A prop maker for a film, or TV show, makes a great prop, we all want one, so we rip of their work, by making direct recasts of it, or by doing our very best to replicate every little detail of their work, so we can get as close as we can to "ripping off" their idea, and hard work". Then when someone rips off our rip offs, you all wine about it. :(

I admit this one is a little different, since it is an original work of art (and a very nice one at that), and as an artist I can respect that. I'm just tired of all the other wining about this kind of thing.

Anyone here that collects anything but screen used props, collect recastings (either directly, or through replication) of real props. :( It's hierocracy.

Like I said, though, In this case it was an original work of art, and that is a little different. I'm just saying the only recasting that really should be complained about around here, is when a 100% original work of art (like this), or original personal design is ripped off.
This is one of the few times this has come up around here, that I actually feel bad for the person who made the original, because unlike most the cases around here, the thing that got ripped off, was actually made by the person that was ripped off. (well unless you want to count some kind of god for making Ford, then Howard is recasting gods work. :lol)

I agree (in this very rare case) you should ask for your money back, and help to spread the work about the seller.

All outta popcorn, BRB.... :rolleyes

IMO and others, recasting of any sort without rights is bad and wrong, period... and another question is, why would you need to recast an item you bought really, even if for you're own enjoyment? A few years ago I bought a Peter Weller "Robocop" life cast on a whim, in hopes of building a Robohead/helmet around it...

It's sat in my closet for 6 months or longer, because it is mine to do with as I wish; It's also a beautiful piece in itself untouched, and after a repaint would only be better...

That said, and the fact that besides being seen by myself or immediate household members, I feel no need to Recast it in silicone simply to gain a more accurate look or texture. If you bought it based on looks / appearance and are happy with it, and barring any entertained idea of it falling into a mold, I would just as soon not do a thing except enjoy the piece that you have...

I jumped into this thread a tad late, and did not read all the posts, but as a member here, you will find out quickly and without mercy that any sort of recasting for other than personal use will get you booted and / or blacklisted before you know it...

I've seen this animated gif pop up during pissing matches on here a couple of times now - always makes me laugh.
