Does anyone know what the part is that is used on most of the side control panels. It looks almost like a metal clip(bulldog clip) and sits between each 'control' on each panel.
These are obviously a found item, but where can i find them!

Heres a pics of the part:

Thanks!

I was calling them "clip clamps" and had one custom fabricated and then made a gang mold of them. The original part, and the gang mold vanished from where they were sitting one day at a shop I used to work at.

Thanks for that. So the one you had made, was made from metal? and you made resin copies of it?

It was made out of styrene with a simple screw and I had cast them in plastic. For some reason, a bucket of them also dissapeared that I had cast up.

I'd prefer metal, just for accuracy i suppose. The originals look like they are made of metal.

regardless if they are made of metal or not for a reproduction, how much more accurate would it be? The only available panels are scratch built and made in resin. Mine were plastic but still, modified from Vinces scratch built panel.
Get ready to pay out the nose for the needed clip/clamps in metal. I seem to recall about 12 or 14 needed for the panels.

Mic, why aluminum?

No reason really, just an option available to me. Plus the other bits and bobs need to be metal. But those do get painted so a pile of them out of resin would be okay by me.

I was all ready to buy your parts. Why'd you go and lose them?

I didnt lose them, they were lost for me, free of charge.

The final piece of the puzzle, the combo lock panel, was being done at the time...

AAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

Don't mention that song.

In High School I was cameraman for a "talent" contest where two girls "sang" Dust in the Wind. I had to sit through dozens of rehearsals and "performances".

Scarred for life.

A cheap way that looks as good as the time you put into it is to buy the sheet metal from the hobbie store. The metal is thin enough to cut with regular scissors and once bolted to the panel, is very sturdy. Use a dremel to cut out the square notches.

I have a burr set I got from Snap On that has a super sharp bit that actually allowed me to cut the squares vs. drilling and filing.

Those parts look like clips to hold plastic panels on cars - makes sense if the main piece is a dashboard insert.

When I need twenty of something, that I think many others will also need, generally I tend to think of some way to semi-mass produce them.

I know, but I'm just saying everyone who doesnt have the laser cut option can do it for around $10 bucks and an hour worth of time.:cool

And in my case I really enjoy making what pieces I can.....that being said, you wont see me cutting the vent out of a soda can.:lol

I have friends who are totally into British cars. I have pimped pics of this thing to all of them offering the freakin' moon if they can find it.

Zip.

Starting to make that balance pipe thing for the OW saber look like a Graflex.
