HAMMERTIME! A display, restoration and sculpture project!

Some time ago, Wesley from http://www.wickedprops.com got in contact with me regarding a screen used costume from the film Thirteen Ghosts. The character was a 6' 4" musclebound ghost called "the Hammer" and the costume needed repair, a custom mannequin and a head!

What followed was a ton of work (and a lot of friendly emails back and forth... Wes is a top notch guy!) This complicated project involved free sculpting, restoration, paint matching and fiberglass work and today I'm proud to present the final product.

When this costume arrived, it was in rough shape, with shredded trap muscles, tears and flaked paint... and (perhaps worse!) it was stored away in a box! It's now repaired, mounted on a custom mannequin and topped off with a custom sculpted head, making for an impressive display piece that's sure to command attention!

Be sure to visit our site for a look at this and other Sculpture-Bust-Statue and Custom Mannequin Movie Prop Display projects!

Pics below... enjoy!

Here is the muscle suit as it arrived in my shop:

A shot of the head sculpt progress and finished product. A multi-layed paint job gives the look of realistic skin while matching the tones used in the body. We were fortunate enough to have a handful of original spikes to use on the new head. I recreated the remaining spikes.

Some close up shots of the finished display. The "dog collar" on this character makes the transition from my head to the original costume appear seamless. The repaired traps are colored to blend between the original suit and the head coloration.

Beautiful work Tom.
The replica head is really impressive too.

Outstanding finished product.

NICE.. I always like that character. It's a shame so much detail gets lost in the film. I never knew he had a hammer for a hand until now. ;)

Well done..

That is one amazing reconstruction job. :eek

Are you doing any other characters from 13 Ghosts?

thanks guys.

The costume itself is very impressive considering his screen time. Everything's detailed with studs and spikes. Lots of blood and distressing. The apron is real chain mail and weighs a ton.

Amazing work. Absolutely love it. What a great display piece you've put together. :D

Incredible work Tom, nice to see a piece like this being shown off to its full potential.

this was on just the other day. i watched a bit of it it had been a long time, and i was sayin to myself, there are some cool props in this movie (like the glasses, and of course the "ghosts") and wondered if anyone ever thought of or worked with any of the props, and here Tom has saved the day on one of the coolest characters of the movie. that head looks perfect man. was the original a mask? or the guys face with makeup? either way it looks seamless and perfect.

as always Tom, your tha man maing. B)

thankya much.

The original was an actor wearing pretty much a full head makeup. I've tried to imply the seams of the makeup in my sculpt actually (seen most clearly around the eye bags and chin).

Wes has a few other costumes from the film and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to do another of these soon.

WOW. You never cease to amaze me on these pieces that you "bring back from the grave" :lol

Just looks outstanding all finished up.

Wampa, that is freaking fantastic. Though I've not seen the movie, who can't help be humbled by your skills after seeing the before and after pics.

You have every reason to dislocate your shoulder while patting yourself on the back. lol

LOL Thank you.

More likely, it'll be dislocated from lifting this guy onto his base. The mannequin feet are weighted with ultracal to keep him balanced with that heavy apron :)

Tom

WOW. I saw the pics of the torso but man a full figure?. That looks fantastic. Top notch work as usual Tom :)

Wow, you really 'nailed' that one .

That guy really 'get's to the point' .

Has he ever worked for 'Spike Lee'?

Seriously, great job. Why didn't you work on the naked-chick ghost from that movie instead? That would be AWESOME.....
