Hammer Industries Ex-Wife missile... yes another one ! [WIP] (pics heavy !)

Thanks !
Good news, I am done with my exams, and I'll go get the resin to the DHL warehouse tomorrow. We'll probably start experimenting saturday, we chose 65D to rotocast the piece. If it fails or do not gives us the result we want, we'll try regular casting.
About the stand, we did change it, since I miscalculated the dimensions for the first one, I had to correct it and I ended up redesigning it from scratch.
This is what I came up with (sorry for low quality) :

Will be also cast in clear, except for the base, painted in aluminium to mach the plaque and housing the magnets allowing the stand to just snap at the right place on the plaque.

The colors look real good... the original does have a glossier midsection. Maybe a coat of glossy clear would help.

yep this one didn't have a clear coat over it will do that tommorow or saturday

tonight i'll be prepping our master missile for molding

I do think there is no varnish or finish coat on the prototype, Stargatefan should apply it tomorrow, we'll see how shiny it gets ! But you are right, it does need a little shine.

Alright, major update here :
We got the new stand, composed of the base and the stand itself in two pieces, and we have successfully pulled two casts out of the mould, and it's looking good so far ! Both will need some clean up, but we're pretty happy, all the details are still there, it's smooth and it's one solid piece of resin. Unfortunately we didn't succeed to roto-cast it, the resin sets too quickly for us to roto-cast such a small piece.
The stand was also thrown in silicon, we manage to pull some stand bases in resin just fine, the stand itself is still curing as the clear resin takes a lot longer to cure.
Now picture time !

Looks great. Also, not sure if you know about this or not but if you were trying to avoid a solid resin missile in order to use less resin and/or for it to weight less then there is also something that Smooth-on sells that could to that for you. I am not sure of the official name but they are micro bead fillers that you mix in to the resin and it takes up space so you use less resin and so that the final product is lighter.

Indeed, lightweight was our goal, but given that the rotocast process didn't work on this, we went with plain casting. I'll take a look on the Smooth On website, those micro bead fillers could come handy !
We got our final plaques by the way, I'm hoping we will have a finish piece to show by the end of the month. The clear casting of the stand didn't work well neither, we'll give it another try, but I'll take a look at clear 3D printing materials, that could spare us some trouble !

Looks great. As for a clear stand... have you looked into just getting the parts lasercut out of clear acrylic. That would be cheaper than 3D printing each one.

Just a small update to say we're not dead, nor is the project ! We've been looking for someone able to cut us our stand in clear acrylic, like Darkside suggested, but my mails never get any replies from the few company I've asked. Finally we found someone from the RPF, where we should have started looking. Always look in the RPF community first, there is nothing they can't do :lol
So, we're back on track, and I hope we'll be able to show a finished piece by the end of august/early september.

So a small update acrylics are being cut
And our missile is almost finished only screws to attach so here is a teaser of the final product

And we have a JY thread open for the extra pieces if you are interested. Next week we should be done with the missile above too.
