Halloween costumes air mag conversion

modded but not the lights, just toe, paint, etc... and i've put too much work in these to send them back even if they were under warranty. so now the next step is to change out like you did. remember to let me know when you get more stuff. i may even make a new pair of straps too. they light up like a champ but i'm pretty sure i can make a better pair.
Yeah those electronics it comes with suck big ones...always fail..

I will, i got some people waiting.. ill try and order next week..so ill have em in hand in like 3 weeks..

word of advice. if you wear them. they WILL break. so if you put all this work in, like i did for yesterday, be prepared when the wires break. goodluck.

That's why I got glow-in-the-dark stuff from Cavx when I got my clear soles from his first batch for my wear pair. No electronics to break. Just cut the GITD into the shape of the EL pieces and glue beind the clear side. If I had room for a display cabinet, might go an EL pair. I was lucky and my V2 lights kept working for a really long time, but they did still fail.

So true.. lol.. my el strap stoped working.. aperently walking made the wire pull from it.. need to resolder them..then theyre solid..

I tried soldering my kit, finished and it didn't light up. Never soldered anything since school but I'm not sure what I did wrong [emoji20]

Plus I think I may have cut the strap hole too small for the Nike logo, so it's either try to cut it larger or look at getting some new straps ..... ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445550616.298746.jpg

Thaks brother...

Idk are they?? Lol i figured more ppl would do the mod

I don't think too many HC owner (if any) have done this mod based on the level of difficulty. It is not an easy one to do. I did see a photo last night on Facebook of some chick with short shorts and MAGs that looked HC. She had a full EL conversion done. So you are one of at least two.

i've had 3 pairs and they all broke the first time i wore them out. right shoe each time. and this time it's both sole and heel and it looks like the wire has worked it's way out and is twice the length out that is was.

I kept breaking the left shoe wires when I had my pair. I put it down to the stresses (that we don't think about in everyday life) of driving and getting in and out of a car. Looking back though, my solder joints were pretty crap and I did not seal them up with heat shrink like the double sheath I do now. I am about to light my straps for a 10KM walk I will doing tonight (raising money for MS with the 501st).

There seems to be a massive QA between the V2 and HC wiring, but in the end, the shoe undergoes massive stresses as we walk, run, jump, climb etc that wiring just does not stand up well to. I have made myself a new GITD kit (4 x small arches) as a back up.

If using EL, polarity is of utmost importance! Not to the EL sheet, but to the inverter. Check you have positive to positive on the input.

I followed Marks guide to the letter and the video too.

Gonna have to de solder and re do them I guess. Was so sad finishing them, flicking the switch and...nothing [emoji26]

Also, can you cut the EL Logo? To make it a bit smaller? Or will that wreck it?

I didnt get a kit..i madee mije from scratch.. but i always connect the wires with alligator clips or by twisting them...or just taping them together, that way before soldering i can verify that it works.. alsi you could have burnt the wires when soldering, if you held it too long..this happened to me at the beggining a lot.. went through a lot of leds lol.. untill i got the hang of my solder gun. Easiest would be to check if you switched the + and soldered it to the -..

Thanks I'll check them and see if I have the polarity right . I may have burnt the wires as they did get hot when I was soldering. Does this mean the wires are fried then? Damn.

It depends. I do think 'tinning' everything first is the way to go with this stuff and then you 'sweat' the parts together rather than solder them directly with the iron. That way you only ever get enough heat to melt the solder and not burn the EL.

Just got my straps done. One was basically plug and play and the other was a complete be-otch. Two inverter change outs laters, and it turns out the solder tabs on the EL sheet itself were not making good enough contact to light the sheet. The volt meter showed AC at the terminals but no light.

In fact, one is slightly dimmer than the other due to I think the plug and play side needing some solder TLC.

Yeah I used the video and "tinned" the wires beat I could, not soldered anything since I was a kid.

I didn't realize I could burn the EL and now have no idea if I actually have.

Plus I think I need to cut the strap more as the whole of the Nike logo doesn't show through [emoji17]

When I did mine today, one would not light up, so after changing out inverters etc, I ended up using my tester inverter which outputs a higher then the batteries I am using and it came on. It seems like this stuff needs a good shock every now and then kick it into gear.

What i don't get is why one panel is slightly brighter than the other if they both use the same parts and fresh batteries. Been running them 8 hours solid now, and still bright.

Does anyone on here sell a better lighting kit closer to the RD's the HC seem kinda meh in comparison. Also what is the easiest way to paint the mid soles (grey part) to make it more colorful and less dull.

I noticed mine went dim..when my connecfion started to fail. So kf your connection isnt solid...it will be dim and not as bright as it should

So I ordered a pair of the HC mags the other day and they should arrive on the 28th. My question is I've noticed a lot of people have issues with the lights and they malfunction frequently. Is there a somewhat "simple" fix I can do to make them stable without completely replacing the entire lighting mechanism? Also, I'm a size 9 in Nikes. I ordered a size 9. Will they be too big on me? Thanks a lot!!!

sorry, but there is no simple fix. once they break you either replace them all or just have a non lighting pair.

they run true to size. you should be ok.

When you say replace them all are you referring to the entire show or just the lighting mechanism? If talking about the lights, how would I go about replacing them? How much would it cost?
