Halloween 2008 -- Help me decide

So, I'm thinking about Halloween for this coming year. I have basically 3 costumes perpetually on standby (although I some require some minor upgrades).

1.) Indiana Jones -- the crowd favorite. Tough to go wrong with this one. Only thing is I've worn it for the last two years and with the mixed feelings about KotCS out there, not sure if I want to go as this.

2.) Han Solo -- classic, but often not really recognized as well as Indy. Plus, I want to get new pants for it and maybe a new vest. Still, a good costume.

3.) Slash (from G'n'R and Velvet Revolver) -- another crowd favorite. Haven't done this one in quite a few years.

4.) Build something new -- I've always been partial to doing a Ghostbuster costume, but I refuse to do it anything other than perfect and that will require way more time and cash than I have. I could probably do James Bond, but have no desire to wear my tux to a Halloween party and have some ******* spill beer on it. Plus, I'd just be a guy in a tux until I pulled out the PPK. I prefer to go as unique characters (or something unique even if it isn't a character -- ie: a ghostbuster or stormtrooper or whatever). Basically, I'm looking for something that won't be TOO expensive, will be easily recognizable, relatively popular, and something that resonates with me personally. You guys won't know what that last one is, but throw out whatever ideas you've got, based on the other requirements. :)

So, what do you think? Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone? ......Anyone? ...........Bueller?

Go with something new. You'll have more fun. Try a classic horror monster, perhaps, if that's your bag.

Re: Halloween 2009 -- Help me decide

Horror monsters not so much. But yeah, I'm leaning towards something new if I can bring the total cost in under about $600.

Re: Halloween 2009 -- Help me decide

Did I miss a year? I know that I'm a bit absent minded at times... maybe even a little crazy... but it is still 2008 isn't it?

Doh! Sorry. That'll teach me to post while talking on the phone. :)

Re: Halloween 2009 -- Help me decide

You could do a great Tusken for less than $600

Re: Halloween 2009 -- Help me decide

Hmm. For the crowds I suspect I'll be hanging with, a tusken isn't likely to be a crowd pleaser. It does seem pretty easy (along with an Imperial Guard red dude), but not quite there for crowd-pleasing qualities.

Gumby! Its all sheet foam colored green and a cigar. Do it like Eddie Murphy from Saturday night live.
Or a Conehead. Sorry, been watchin old ep of SNL.:lol

Grab a buddy and go as Jay and Silent Bob. A friend and I did this last year and it was great times!!! :)

Problem: no fat buddies. This also rules out The Blues Brothers, which would be an awesome costume and relatively easy to do, I think. And just going as one Blues Brother is kind of sad.

Not to be snobby at all...but for $600 your Indy won't be accurate (if you care about that)
I did a cheap Indy and every one knew who I was...so that being said you'll be fine.
Now I have an accurate Indy costume and it was pretty expensive to assemble.
My hat and jacket cost over 600. alone

Actually, I already have a fully assembled Indy costume. Only things I'd need to upgrade are the gunbelt/whipholder assembly, the gun itself (I have a .357 airsoft pistol instead of an S&W HE2), and MAYBE the shirt or trousers (which are still "close enough"). But yeah, $600 doesn't even begin to cover it for that costume if you're doing it from the ground up. ;)

when you say that monsters aren't really crowd pleasers when it comes to who you hang out with on halloween, what kind of stuff would be a crowd pleaser? This would help us narrow down ideas on what could possibly work for you. Being a large man myself, I have always done horror characters, be it Jason, Leatherface, and even a large monster clown. I did try my hand at an Econo Version of Hagrid from the Harry Potter films as well. Help us out by narrowing down so that we can help you out.

take care,
Tommy

I think every third guy will be Indy this year. This'll probably be the year to leave that outfit in the closet.
