Tried my hand at making the USP from Half Life 2. I made the majority of it out of balsa wood, since I don't really have the tools to do other kinds of wood.
I followed this tutorial with a few modifications.
The stencil, cut into the various parts I'd be assembling.
The main body of the gun, glued together.
Main body with mag well and trigger area cut out. I went back and made the mag well larger so that it reached the top of the body.
Assembled main body with mag out.
The grip texture was cut out of sandpaper. At the top is the mechanism that allows the slide to move. The groove at the front prevents the slide from moving back too far. The hole in the middle holds one of two dowels that are connected with a rubber band on both sides, which allows the slide to 'snap back'. I added a third rubber band on top of the mechanism which connected to the underside of the slide top, which makes sure the the slide moves forward/back with less side-to-side wobble.
The slide is assembled.
Main detail work complete, roughly 80% assembled.
About halfway finished on the barrel.
100% assembled.
Primer coat.
Base paint down.
Started work on the detail paint.
Did some light weathering on the side.
The finished pistol. From this angle you can get a better view of the 'dirt rub' I did alongside the raised parts.
