Half-Life 2: OSIPR2, or AR2 Pulse Rifle (Pic Heavy)

Greetings. I thought I'd share the WIP of one of my most favorite weapons of any media, the AR2 Pulse Rifle or the OSIPR2 (Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle 2) In some of my other threads and on other sites I've mentioned that it was one of my earlier projects, but I had to put it off until better references surfaced. Now with the discovery of excellent references, I can now proceed with construction.

Here are the drafts for the AR2.

This is a test piece for the main body of the rifle. This was made from using cardstock and foamboard. The final peice will be much narrower and have a removable plate on the bottom in front of the grip.

The barrel shroud. This is a test piece, I'll be using this as a reference for when I construct the shroud. I used about 12 layers of cardstock to make this shroud.

This is the main body, foregrip and magazine dispenser etched into some PVC sintra board. Probably start cuting it out at the beggining of the year.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this. Questions and comments are welcomed.

Nice! I think this is the same way I'd scratch build a gun. I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time, I look forward to where you go with it.

Can't wait to get started with it. Got some touchups to do on my Halo DMR and need to finish my Halo M7 smg before I can start on this. Hopefully I'll get them both done this week.

Sorry for the double post, I left this thread alone too long and it desperately needs to be updated.

Here's progress on the AR2. Please note that there are partially assembled peices that are not in the picture.

Here is the lower portion of the rifle. I have the stock partially built, and it will be able to detach to allow access to the firing pin's motor

Next is the magazine. The magazine is in two portions, one side is a tray that holds power cores, and the other side is a detachable magazine. Before anyone drops the hammer on me, I did my homework and this part of the rifle does indeed detach.

I made the magazine so it will be compatilbe with other weapons. In other words: I'm gonna cast the mag so I can use a copy on a future project.

I thought about putting this into the weapon prop contest, but I've already showed it off, and I'm currently working on two commisions so progress will be a little slow. and It' probably won't make the Feb 28th deadline.
Anyways, thanks for taking the time to look at my AR 2 Rifle and feel free to leave any questions, comments or critiques.

Thanks Ghost.
I'm surprised that this hasn't gotten that much attention, considering how few Half-Life stuff is out there.

What power tools do you generally use?
Also, what type of putty do you use when filling gaps and seams?
I'm alway jealous of how good you can make a weapon look with just sintra and styrene...!

I'm not really a Half-Life fan but I can tell already that this is going to look really nice.
Your work is very neat. :)

@Contec
Well, as long as I have lurkers, I guess I'm fine with that.

@Ronster
Thanks. I have three power tools that I use a lot. A dremel kit (which I rarely use) a powered screwdriver (Most used tool) and a hair dryer (to bend the plastic) What I very rarely use is a table saw for some tricky stuff.
The type of putty I use is Loctite epoxy putty

@88reaper88
Thanks. I like my work to look sharp and rigid.

I got three projects here that I have to finish by Friday, so I won't be able to work on my AR2 until next week. Stay tuned...

How do you usually cut the plastic? Razor blade??

I'm just wondering cause I hit a mother-load of super-cheap sintra scraps at a local sign shop and I'm super psyched to mess around with it.

Yeah, I do use razors. I get the thicker, reverse tanto style because the tips are less likely to break. But I think the best so far, but I have yet been able to find replacement blades, is the reverse scalpal, they tend to be the strongest. Also, some more advice, I would recommend using Loctite super glue, liquid and not gel (Gel sucks) I've had great results with that stuff. And for drawing on your plastic, I would reccommend using a fine tipped pen. I use the Pilot Precise V5RT. Have fun with your new found sintra.

TOO COOL!!! Just saw this! I ALWAYS thought that would be the sweetest video game gun to make.

They should make a half life movie.

Quit rebooting everything. THERE ARE OTHER GREAT STORIES OUT THERE!

The closest you can get is fan films. And there's a lot of them.
The Purchase Brother's YouTube - Escape From City 17 - Part One (Part 2 still has not been placed yet)
InfectousDesigner's YouTube - Beyond Black Mesa
BorderWorldFilm's YouTube - Teaser for "Lambda-A Half Life fan film" (they've got Part 1 also up)

Though not live action, there is still the classic YouTube - Half life: Full Life Consequences

Theres one thing missing from those fan films, and that's the AR2 pulse rifle! Actually, years ago, the Purchase brothers video actually inspired me to make the AR2, seeing they had the lack thereof

There's an upside to this: If you ever decide to do a fan film, then you'll have the AR2 to use for it. :D
