Gremlins Bathroom Buddy

I snagged the toothbrush. The 411 I think that is more accurate that my current 411.

I snagged the Ace #88 comb. He took $20 for it.

I got a mirror from one of the links. I doubt it has the marking on the back, but It will do until or if the screen accurate version is found.

I am pretty much done for the tools except the Revlon Clippers. I am debating getting a new set with the R as I want all NOS pieces or waiting to find a good condition no R piece.

There is a accurate Nail clipper on Etsy if anyone wants to snag it. It is a bit more beat up than I want but here it is.

Here is another one. It looks to be in better shape, but you would need to ask for a pic to make sure it does not have the R. It does not show that size:

That one is wrong. Hard to tell since the top part is flipped over, but the Revlon logo is missing under the nail file.
It's probably the version with the full Revlon name on the front.

The one is this lot might be correct, but they only show the back with the Revlon logo. It could have the R on front or blank.

Found these.

Good news: Would have been circa 1983, with no 'R' on the top.
Bad news: They are in the Smithsonian :lol::lol:

Each astronaut aboard a spacecraft has a personal hygiene kit with items for cleanliness and grooming during the mission. Contents typically include a comb, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shaving supplies, lip balm, deodorant, skin cream, nail clippers, sleep mask, and ear plugs. Astronauts can choose their own items from selected brands. NASA transferred to the Museum a variety of extra items from personal hygiene kits packed for the STS-7, -8, and -9 Space Shuttle missions of 1983.

Sounds like we need to do A "Bathroom Buddy's 11" style action.

It's not like they were up there very long back then.

Apologies if this hasn't been covered yet, but something that has always bothered me about the GUM toothbrushes usually mentioned (besides shape discrepancies) is that I don't think any of them have the correct bristle-count. The toothbrush has to be modified anyways and the shape could be tweaked, but none of the assortment of different GUM toothbrushes I've collected have the correct initial bristle count. By my eyes, the original toothbrush started as a 4-row with 55 bristles/tufts (the last row has only 3 tufts), most everything I have collected has 11 or less full rows.

So again it looks like I have a lot of close-but-no-cigar parts, but I can live with that. I do have a couple of toothbrushes coming to check including a very close vintage brush with the correct # of bristles and a VERY close shape, but I don't want to get my hopes up until I can overlay the new brush photos with the reference stuff.

Yeah, my new one came and I was right, although barely discernable, the brushes are basically identical. There is a slight sharper edge on the flat side with the bristles and the indent is slight flatter. It's also slightly shorter. Markings exactly the same, slightly darker red color.

So I was real happy with it and then you ruined it. :p

Like my other one the bristles are off. Mine both have 10 rows of 3 and then one row at the top with two.

Pics later.

For now,...coffee.

I found the exact toothbrush, but it's very rare. I have a red one, but it's one size too small (11 rows tall).
I did find one the correct size but it's opaque and light blue.
I decided to pick it up for measuring and reference. I'm assuming making replicas would be too much trouble.

The red/orange cap under the clippers seems to have a recessed line with Pat.# or other tiny letters inside.

In the Kenner Star Wars figure hobby we might call that a mold scar, this would usually pertain to copyright, year, or country of origin.
Speaking of bristle count not matching Butler-GUM, this is interesting.

edit: Went digging for more info and missed lonepigeon's post.

What are we looking at here? I can make out an R, but don’t recognize the context.

It's part of the toothbrush brand name. I can explain all once my new toothbrush arrives.

lonepigeon Did you get a brand name on the dental mirror, or find out any new information on what the CC stands for?
No useful information on the mirror. Seller acquired them with a bunch of other dental surplus.
I did find another one in another lot. It looks like it might be green instead of blue, but it was cheap enough so I took the risk.

laellee how is the 3D modeling of the bathroom buddy going?

I finished the body a while ago. I'm in the process of scanning or micro'ing the old fashioned way) the parts I have and then re-modeling them clean. I'm using all of that data to reproduce the buddy again with the accurate models and photogrammetry to get a much more accurate blueprint for printing and CNC. All of these accurate 3d models coupled with those great hero references will finally get me measurements and proportions that I am willing to trust, everything from the correct shape and thickness of the beauty mirror to how deep and wide each cutout needs to be in the body.

Okay for the second time and place my little blue mirror order has been cancelled.
