I seem to recall shortly after the trailers started coming out, someone collected tons of Tweets from all kinds of different people saying things like "I thought Green Lantern was supposed to be black?!" I'm pretty sure that this iteration of the character is more familiar to today's moviegoing audience - for instance, anyone who happened across Justice League on Cartoon Network while flipping the channels - than Hal Jordan.

...And Ryan Reynolds would have been a much better Flash, anyway.

I think John has been the lantern for a good while before i even saw him on the cartoon. I always wondered why they were making a live action one when they had that animated one a year or so ago.

and i'd like to go on record as saying that those justice league and justice league unlimited cartoons are some of the best cartoons that i've ever seen. amazing stuff.

Just got back from the movie. It was good, some pretty cool parts in it but it was far from amazing.

I guess when you grew up begging for movies like this, and aren't spoiled by getting them every few months, you have different perspective.

the trailer didn't appeal to anyone in my family.
We all felt it was cast wrong (we do like Ryan, just not as GL).
We all felt it was an over-the-top CGI-fest. Rick baker says it best about the eyes of a character being the soul...the CGI Green Lantern face - his eyes just look dead from what we have seen on TV and in pics.
To hear it is not doing well; surprises none of us.
I'll catch it on netflix someday when I call in sick and I find myself on the couch all day.

Agreed that Ryan Reynolds was miscast in this role. I always saw Nathan Fillion as a good candidate, or somebody who could pull off "more serious". RR would make a great Flash though. Since I've been a GL fan for years, I'll probably see it in the theater anyway.

Harsh. What's stupid about not supporting bad movies? I don't want to see "any" comic book movies made. I'd rather see none than see bad ones popping up constantly and bringing down the genre. Nothing stupid about it, to me. Films that look this bad will not get my money.

Well, in fairness to Mike, he didn't say that. He said "To not give it a chance in the theatre is just stupid" to which I took him to mean that folks should see it themselves before bashing it just from reading reviews that may or may not have agendas of their own. I'm not speaking for him, of course, but I should think he'd allow your "saw the trailer; it's not for me" stance as that's at least a mildly-informed opinion. :lol

I don't see anything harsh in observing that folks probably have a different perspective than those of us who went to see BOY AND HIS DOG and LOGAN'S RUN in the theatre because that's all we had.

I get that. I just think we each vote with our dollars, and neither seeings something because you expect to enjoy it or avoiding seeing it because you expect not to isn't "stupid." I haven't seen a frame of this film that makes me want to see another, and can't imagine a reason I'd put money towards supporting it. The fact that I'm a geek of sorts and appreciate Hollywood's newfound interest in the superhero genre shouldn't compel my blind devotion to anything they turn out in that set...
