Here is one I just did, I went a little crazy on the weathering.

I finished this one for Alberto last week. Took these before sending it off to him in Italy real quick.

This is all the new Solo's Hold kit parts on a pristine, brand new vintage MGC. The MGC has the red nine grips, which can be replaced at anytime later, but other than that it's and accurate base, and the paint weathering I tried to get as accurate as I can get it without having a real scope. Some of the small paint chips came off a little larger than the ref photos, so I'll give myself a 98-99%.

I was really worried about how to get the aluminum flash hider to look like a real M9 FH which is parkerized steel. Then I remembered Bart gave me some Sophisticated Finishes Iron metallic Surfacer some many months ago, and I gave it a try. It lacks the last detail of slight green tint that real parkerization has, but the hard coat came out great! I'm much more happy with this treatment that a chemical one. It took some trial and error in application, and it's not easy getting a smooth coat, but the results look good enough for me to be pretty darn happy.

To ME, in the screen used version you can see the separation of where the splits are in the scope rings. Meaning either medium or high mount rings were used. So I got some high mounts, as I think this is what was really used.

Here's with my own GK on MGC with real FH and real scope. I've put on the new grill from the run, but not weathered yet. However the scope mount parts are all Corellian Exports, so you'll see some obvious differences.

Hi Folks Just wanted to share a couple of pics of my GK build, and to say thanks again for the great kit !

So here on the top is a test assembly all drilled and tapped, unpainted. Also at the bottom of the image is a Weaver 1.5.1 F ( I think) that I was going to use, but I decided to go for accuracy and the kit scope instead. So I'm just looking into mocking up a "3oin" blaster with some spares (I forgot to take a pic of the GK on its own).


Here we go with everything done except the flash hider .. as I may be getting a real one ! If I don't get it, im still wondering how I'm going to fake the parkerized finish ? (Its hard to find Scotts "Sophisticated Finishes" stuff in europe. Still even like this I really like it.

I was wondering if I could get some advice regarding fixing an issue I had with my build.

I glued the glass into the scope using the glue provided. However the smaller glass lens has clouding. I was wondering if anyone had any ides how to fix this barring breaking out the lens and replacing it.

My only idea at this point is to inject a decent amount of alcohol into one of the knob holes and hope that it has an affect on the clouding and that the remaining alcohol does evaporate.

Any ideas?

Based on previous conversations with Scottjua, those are not the same weaver rings as used in the actual cantina scene. The football shaped style rings would be used if you are attempting to recreate that image or other images of photos of Solo/Ford with short hair holding the prop.

However if your goal is to replicate the version on screen, you need different ring an they are both on the the rail.

In all honesty, I'm still skeptical about the other rings. The shot on screen is very dark an so many details are washed out by lack of lighting and resolution. Many people on this board who know much much more about this blaster than I do believe in the ring switch out theory and even my own replica is built using the prevailing information.

That's not what I'm talking about. We know the placement is different from publicity photos to the movies. I'm talking about that popular belief is that those are not the same style rings as seen in the publicity photos.
