The rest of this post is mainly copy/past from my build thread but I'll add what troubles I had and my experience here beforehand. So I new I was going to have a few weeks off from work in between contracts and knew I need to find something to keep me busy. I had been a long time cosplay lurker. Meaning I followed lots of cosplayers on facebook and was always fascinated with wip pics but never had taken part myself. I've had 0 prior experience to costuming besides throwing on a halloween mask. So I did some searching and found this glorious mecca of knowledge and started doing my research. At the time when I was looking around at the various Spider-Man suits being made (which were awesome) I noticed there were hardly any symbiote suit projects goin on and it was always one of my favourites. I don't mean to toot my own horn but after I finished mine they started popping up all over the place ;p
So aside from the tough part of just planning everything out and figuring where to get what I needed the decision to puffy paint the entire suit was always an easy decision but not so easy execution. I guess I was slower than most at doing it but it took me a good 2-3 weeks to finish the entire suit. A large portion of the suit was printed so dark that the honeycomb pattern just disappeared into a sea of black so I had to devise my own methods of keeping the pattern consistent. The seamstress I used for this project had also never done anything like this to there was a lot of back and forth trying to figure it out and getting it to fit properly. Overall I'm super happy with how it turned out. So happy that I'm hooked and been working on my next suit, a replica of the suit from the latest movie, ASM2! Shortly after finishing the suit I found a local photographer to do a shoot. He had a hookup to a highrise condo with a balcony in downtown Toronto overlooking the city line. Just below me to the left was the Sky Dome (Rogers Centre) and we were watching a football game mid shoot lol. Had a blast!

I turned to the RPF and joined specifically for this project. The amount of knowledge and resources here is truly amazing. I've been toying with the idea of making a spidey suit of some kind ever since coming across @Lunaman 's post about putting his together. I've always been partial to the symbiote suit and haven't seen too many on here so I decided to take the plunge and attempt to make my own. There's quite a few different looks out there for the spider symbol and since it's basically the focal point of the suit since there isn't much else going on it has to be perfect. So I saw this maquette and the style really caught my eye, loved it.

I purchased @Sonjou 's Amazing Spider-Man 1 pattern and did all the modifications to it myself in photoshop. Once I got TJack's faceshell and lenses in the mail it was a great motivator.

The faceshell I got from TJack was one of his prototypes of his new faceshell that didn't quite workout so I grabbed it a bit cheaper but had to modify it a bit. Here's my hackjob with some bondo to try and fill in the corners of the recess. Cracked a little after drying but was fine, going over it again anyway.

Cut out the eyes, drilled some holes for the magnets.

Shaped the frames to the mask. Was pretty nervous about snapping them with too much pressure but all is well!

Went over the bondo again with more bondo.

Sanded it down and painted it black. Glued the magnets to the frames and inside the shell.

Not the prettiest thing ever but it works!

Well it finally arrived! Tiny problem with some of the honeycomb pattern kind of disappearing in the darker areas but they're still just barely visible at certain angles so everything should be fine, it's just killer on my eyes trying to focus on them. Overall I think it turned out great.

The problem with black puff paint on a dark suit is it's hard to get pics of. The puff paint has a great look when moving around and the light hits it from different angles.

So as the overall cost of this thing is quickly rising I'm having to go another route from using Trophywife to put it all together. Meeting with a local seamstress today to go over this whole thing with her and see if it's something she can handle. Still painting...

Getting there

Torso done. All I have left is an arm, a couple legs and maybe a back. Hah. Fak'n hell.

Used my hack hand sewing abilities to piece it together and put it on. I was actually incredibly impressed with how much stretch the puff paint can handle. Has some obvious wrinkles but like I said, I'm no seamstress. That aside I think it looks purdy sweet!

Two palms and one leg finally done.

Got the mask back from the seamstress. Was actually blown away with the job she did. Fits like a glove and all the web lines line up pretty much perfectly! Suffice to say I was even more pumped to finish this thing than I was before.

The monstrous main body section is almost done. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

So these honeycombs on the feet are even smaller than the ones on the head which I'm just realizing now. Haha oh god kill me

One foot done. Taking a break from those tiny ass honeycombs and doing the back pieces. After painting purely black paint on black fabric for hours, days and weeks at a time getting to the few white parts is oddly refreshing. Only a couple pieces left!

Other arm piece done and just finishing up the two side head pieces thennnn that's it! Time to put it all together. So clooose

First test fit

Got to do eye holes and attach the soles to the feet but here you go

Decided to go with an old pair of water shoes. Washed them best I could and just repainted them black.

I got sole.

ALL DONE!
