GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build - New Boot Rockets - Post #201

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

eesh..those look...eesh.

I don't wanna sound like a snob, but the stuff they make for Party City and Spirit Halloween etc are usually NOT something that cosplayers would want to wear. Kevin's right, it's gonna be an ill-fitting cheap vinyl coat with some stuff screen printed on it. It's meant to wear for one night to a halloween party then throw away. I wouldn't waste the cash on stuff like this unless you're planning to wear it once then throw it away.

But to each his own, that's just my opinion.

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

For sure, they are hideous. I just meant if he was dead set on getting one, I would "upgrade" to the deluxe, maybe. Best bet for the long coat, in my opinion, would be to wait a bit. Once the movie comes out on DVD, there will be more options available, if you are not inclined to make one from scratch. I bet all those Asian cosplay sights will jump all over it, still vinyl, but maybe a bit better looking.

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

Amazing work! I just bought a pair of the Nerf blasters and will be following the tips in this topic. I think I will fill in the gaps that the Nerf gun has on the top and bottom barrels too!

Completely agree. No way i'll be getting one of those fancy dress costumes...

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

Yuck, i wouldnt get that dress costume ether. Its better to build one then to buy that. I like the detail of a custome costume.

I like the way the blasters and buckle came out. The blank belt buckle that i picked up is metal and has a slight curve. What i will do as an extra step is weld couple thin wire loops so the clay can set in the loops to hold the two peace together then bake both together.

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

That's a good idea. I bought my metal buckle blank from Tandy leather, it was just a couple bucks. It had a slight curve like you describe. I took a hammer to it on my work bench, slowly banging away until it was flat. Then I took the buckle I sculpted and just superglued it to the metal, easy.

I have a temporary belt belt that I wore for the movie premiere. It's not detailed at all, but I really wanted to wear the buckle. I'm going to use the reference pics people like xfettx posted to make a better belt.

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

I think once Hot Toys releases the 1:6 Star Lord we will be able to get some decent pictures of the belt, shoulder bag and gloves.

Yeah that's were I got mine. There's a tandy leather store not to far from me. I wish there was some photos of the back of the belt but I will just have free open design ideas for that. I may make the back adjustable rather then the front as when you look at the front doesn't look very adjustable. But it was tailor made to him.

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

Yeap that's me. I still think this will be finished Monday afternoon.
I've got two printers the rep 2x which is printing your stuff in ABS and a newer Rep Gen5 which only prints PLA. The ABS will be a lot easier to sand/paint/glue.
I think the prints are coming out well but there are two parts that I want to re-print, the left and right hose came out good at the lower portion but don't looks so good toward the end and I don't want to send you something that doesn't look good. :)

Re: GOTG: My own Star-Lord Build

Thanks Daniel! Great work! Here's another pic he sent me earlier this week. I will be assembling the print myself, but he wanted to tease me with his progress. LOL
