Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

No major leaps, a few kit parts added, most time was spent working up the alloy wing mount brackets, which just need fitting to the wing now.
Im trying to add as many specific Gold Leader parts as possible, most are now known to me, the few that aren't, ill wing TBH as this is one mainly for a mental paint job, not spot on accuracy.....that said, it wont be a mile off.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Knocked up a new R2 housing today, seeing as the Jammer has the Lanc turret, i needed a socket for an R2.
Keeping with the cheap and cheerful route on this model (yeah right lol) i shaved all the details off Johns pattern, and grafted it over to a new piece of styrene, cut to take a future R2.
A few key Gold leader parts also added here, from the 8rad and 155mm, my centre tubing is a bit thick, but its what i had, and isnt too far out.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Looks pretty cool just like it is, all exposed resin, Plastruct, and kit parts! Still, can't wait to see you get into the paints...

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Yea,looking good Lee,no doubt of Lee's build,always looking forward to it:thumbsup

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Thanks guys. I actually have a clear booboo on my part, had a part placement Blutacked totally incorrect, all sorted now though lol.
Need to throw a few parts in the rubber today, once i get those cast, i can start working my way back down the hull.
I can see why the detailing on the Y wing could send a guy blind lol, and im not even going for 100% accuracy :lol.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Found time to conjure up a wing mount. Seems to hold the weight well, just used alloy L strip and a micro panavise extension, all bolted down neatly.
It'll not really be used for side on mounting, more so for underside detailing and paint, don't really see the point of all those mounting points if its not being filmed.....life's too short.
Most parts are now cast, so i should be able to motor on pretty fast now.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

That will help with painting! Looks very nice. Starting to wish I had an armature in the speeder!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

A killer job !!
That's good to have this mounting point even if you dont use it !

Going to send you the parts soon !

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Thanks guys. i may yet still fit a mount point in the other wing too, this one worked out really well, though again, I'm not looking to mount it via a wing, at least side on those Panavise tend to slip over time, no matter how you crank it.

Julien no worries buddy, still need your address to send your parts anyhow.

Allan, agreed, the speeder is one id love to have a side mount, if i do a styrene one down the road, it'll be a given.

Anyhow, like i need more to do, my Probe droid vac pulls arrived this AM from Mars, so yeah, i think it wont be long till I'm tinkering with that, really geared up to do my third set of legs even now!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

I have followed with great interest and attention this thread is very interesting to see how you're doing your model step by step, you really are a true machine for so many projects at one time!
It's very generous of you to provide as many details and secrets of its construction and make them look like the models ILM!. you are a great artist.

I do not post much, because my English is basic ... and sometimes I fear not write well

Congratulations!

Roback.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Thanks Roback. A lot of the finer points i cant share, as the info was given to me via other people, so there not my finds to post sadly, without the help ive received though, id be lost as ANH donors are not my area lol.
That said, I'm trying to get her as close as i can without straining the wallet, and, making sure i take clear pics of the finer details that are specific to this prop.
So it means a lot to have a fellow of your caliber post to my thread, and, your English is just perfect :).

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Awesome Lee!

By the way,I think using those armature or something metal parts on stuido scale models are becoming kind of usual nowaday.
I'm interested in how you get or make and how much money they cost.
Can you tell me if you don't mind?
In my case, to make some metal parts for the motor and modify the jason armature for RED 2 version at iron works,it coseted about 50.000yen. :confused

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Kaoru hey bud....do you mean how much did it cost to just make the wing tip mount???
If so, super cheap, the Panavise extension was maybe $20 and the alloy L strip maybe $10 or so...the alloy wing was part of the kit.

Just working on one side Harrow box assembly....its odd, i always though this was "boxed" and cast collection of parts, but on the Gold Y im following, just looks like it had the actual separate parts attached....pics soon.
