Gold Leader Y wing, NiceN kit conversion.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Oh I see.Thanks.It looks like the alloy L strip was cut by a machine. It looks great.
I love to see those metal parts. They are beautiful!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Hah, thanks Kaoru, yeah even though its on the inside, and not seen, i like it neat, no gobs of goo and rough cuts here buddy, just part of how i operate :lol

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Started to detail up one of the engine cans to Gold leader specs. There actually pretty plain compared to the Jammer cans, quite a few Centurion parts to add.
I fitted the T rods so i dont fudge the part placement too much, but it all went on lovely and straight.
The Vector ring is just one of the resin ones, ill cut new ones for this build more than likely in the Proxxon mini press, as again, there pretty different to the Jammer parts.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

I am not a huge fan of resin kits I like to make my
own models....but this thing looks sweet in the picture.
If I absolutely couldn't make it myself I would have bought
one of these, looking good.:thumbsup

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

I love resin kits, i love the best of both worlds, because i can scratchbuild very well, in fact im pretty well versed in all areas of the hobby, so i dont need to hate on any one part of it.
Besides, i cant afford to scratchbuild the Gold leader, i dont think many realise the cost of building this as a styrene, donor for donor build Michael!

I feel like I miss out on the journey If I don't make
it myself that's my motivation, I just like to build
things. Star Wars is just the expression of that for
for me,I would be drilling or gluing something together
anyway!:lol:thumbsup

Your right about that there is no way many could
afford this is all plastic donor parts it's insane! Even
if I made the filming mini one I would have to use
random parts away from the exact ones. So if you
need an accurate one it's a no brainer!

That's why i named my thread "The One no one
wants to make" Which makes no sense because
it's the cheapest one you can make!!!:lol

Come on lee I have been poking you with a stick since
2005 when you showed me the Y-wing you started to
make, so that's actually your fault.:lol

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

It is true, building them part for part costs much moolah, and glueing any old thing on, well, then, it belongs in the general section really doesn't it?
I guess, in the end, there are the few who like to poopoo on the fact some build resin kits, that come in a box lol...i pity them really, that they have to hate on on an area of the hobby that breeds new talent.....but then, thats that elitism creeping in again.
Michael i love your Y.....your right, nobody was gonna do that one huh lol, im glad you have, but also, a little bummed, as i was really looking forward to an ILM style Y, but with that usual Mike P flair we all know and love....so, you know you have to do another someday....right......? :lol

I heard that...... Resin casting is your friend, hell, im converting my Red Jammer, to Gold Leader on a shoestring, and its still a spendy shoestring mate!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

You have a very valid point Julien, much of the ILM props could have been a garage kit!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Ive cropped the hell out if this, hope it doesn't get me in any hot water but this part is proving a pig to nail down.
Could do with some Karma coming my way after bagging a few finds on Mikes Speeder lol.......I've looked over the Visible V8 push rods, nothing.....only thoughts were some of the Tamiya motorcycles, could be a a rear drum brake pull rod??? Not a lot of ref on those kits about though.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

I know you're looking for this part for a long time now, i still have no idea about this, have you checked the 1/15 bandai panzer iv ? It's an Y donor so we never know !

Im sure i checked the scans for that one Julien, its such an annoying part, a linkage for sure i feel, just cant figure that silly bulbous end on the rod......?

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Yeah it's a handle of some kind, but cant figure the part as a whole and what it could be in real life !

Lee,
I know this might be from a pic you can't share. However, would you be able to pan out just a little more? I want to help but I'm having a hard time. There's nothing around that I can compare the size to. LMK.

Joe

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Heya Joe, sadly can't pan out anymore buddy, the part in question (yes it is a part, it does exist:lol ) id guess at 60mm long from memory.
I actually got back at this last night, working on the cans and the specific Gold Leader detailing, so its funny you bumped her up bud :thumbsup
Its no big deal if its not found, its one that can be added later, or a scratch built placeholder till its ID'd i guess.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

I usually associate those kinds of parts with Peerless Max. Found some close, but no cigar over on studioscalemodelers. They used some parts from this maker in the first movie.

Great build! Looking forward to more.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Scott, im already on that bud, i have it in my head its one of the old nasty tooled kits, AMT/Peerless etc....soft molding, could be wrong.
One thought was the older brake linkages from the 1/6 Motocycles, drum brakes of course....but zip so far.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Looks a lot like a part from the entex zundap. Might also check the tamiya racing honda.
