Gold Leader Y wing, NiceN kit conversion.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Hey chaps, just checked my Tamiya CB750R, no go there I'm afraid.
Also checked the Esci R75 for the hell of it too, not there either.
I'm always looking through the kit stash for Falcon parts so I'll keep an eye out for this one.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Id already checked those bikes guys, thanks for the assist though, nice to know other out there really believe ILM used real donor parts on the filming minis :lol

Its almost perfect for a brake linkage, its just that funky handle type thingy on the end....throws my theory to hell.......anyway, back to counting rivets :lol

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Hey Lee, with you saying it's got sort of a handle on the end, it made me think, and it kinda reminds me of the handle on a trolley jack..it's hard to say 'cos I have no idea what size it is from the pic..
Were there any pit crew accessory sets about at the time in the right scale..?
Dunno..just a thought..

Cheers

Phil

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Ill go measure my model mate, but from memory it was 50 to 60mm long, trolly jack, hmm, would be big as a pit accessory at that size, its a niggly one for sure Phil :lol

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Aye, well just a thought...these things are sent to niggle for sure...:D

BTW, I sent you a pm duder..

Cheers, Phil

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Ah, I can always add it later mate, its not one to hold up the build at least!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Hi Lee,

I think I might know what that piece is - but since I am more of a general all round Star Wars greeblie hunter and don't want mocked by the Studio Scale crowd I will PM you my thought LOL

If I am right you can spread the love after you get the parts :)

Cheers Chris

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Chris, I would say any help & idea's on ID'ing a part is most welcome. I don't feel you'd get 'mocked' here mate, well, I would sincerely hope not anyway!.

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Chris, PM'd you back mate, never be afraid you'll be mocked here mate, and shame on the sad cases that do such things, your one of the top ID guys in the costume/prop area...thats obscure stuff for sure.

bests........lee

Hi Stu,

LOL I was only kidding around about being mocked I should have put a smiley after that comment for clarity.

I don't see the Studio Scale crowd like that at all - in fact I bow to their amazing kit part greeblie finding awesomeness and their amazing model building talents.

Looks like the part I found is correct I will leave it up to Lee to find the correct size as there are a few different scale versions of this item.

I look forward to seeing Lee's Y Wing updates.

Cheers Chris

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Updates soon as it lands Chris, ill measure it all up, and then post, seems to be the bigger of the bunch though when i spitball with the callipers....this is a really great day, owe you one BIG time matey!

Re: TIE Killer Y wing, a conversion!

Darn it! I'm still looking high and low for it! But I will take these clues and narrow my search. :)

Part arrived this AM......spot on, Chris, your a superstar. Ive just opened a FB account....yikes, so ill post up pics and info on there a little later, while the site is still being tinkered with. Like the new format too, very polished.

lee

Any plans on sharing what the part is? I assumed it was a shifter lever of some sort from one of the many AMT semi trucks they produced. I even checked the D8H, my father owned a real one, it had two controls, one for the dozer (which looks alot like the picture) and one for the ripper. The model only has one implement contol tho. Anyways....

Cheers

The info will be shared, ive talked with Chris about it, and we kinda felt it best shared to those who ARE building this Y wing, that sits at present with just myself and John C who has to be kept in the loop being the builder of the master pattern, and doing it this way, helps out those few building it, and stops a pretty rare and obscure kit from being stockpiled. Ill talk more with Chris on it, but i think its best some of the closer knit guys need to get a hand in first IMO.......sound fair Chris?

lee

Stockpilers didn’t know there was such a thing, I can’t even afford what I need for 1 build :cry Was looking hoping to help out but nothing, will be cool to know what it is when all the builders that need it have it and the stockpiling can begin.

Hang in there mate, soon as i know the core group of Y wingers are sorted, its fair game in my book. TBH, its not my call, sure, i found the correct kit, but it was Chris who found "what" the part is, and what real world item its derived from. Its a testament to Chris' ID skills.......id have never have found this........a stunning find.
I dont any other Gold Leaders here just yet, so i don't see a need to start a panic buy reaction, it happens so many times with kits, and it drives prices through the roof for the serious builder, it'll be out there soon enough 3phase :D

lee

Drooling over the images of this project - again. Oh man! I hope another studioscale Y-wing kit comes along someday and I am around to catch it, I'd love to build one.

About the Fb page, is it a public page, one to "like"? Where do I find it? :D
