I think the dome was removeable on the stunt suit because it added to the weight which was pretty exhausting for the stunt man.

Wasn't the coating you are talking about on the dome just regular perspiration, like seen in the space suit helmets. Condensation fogging up the clear dome?

And the domes were made with that swoop at the back, following the shape of the head back there. Not something I've seen on any fan-made dome offering that just cut it off mid-way. From the documentaries on the quadrilogy box the dome was removable.

Also, those last pics make it look like they chromed the nails in a similar fashion to the teeth. You even see one where some of the chrome has snapped off. Would make sense that teeth and nails were the same, considering our teeth and nails being like that.

Nope, the dome had a silver coating sprayed inside it. This was verified by someone who inspected a screen dome in Bob Burns private collection if I recall.

The silvering inside the dome was that is most documented was on the suit used in the scene on the Narcissus where the alien was hiding among the pipes.......they silvered the dome for the purpose of blending the head with the pipes. I wonder how many other scenes were shot or supplemented after they did this. It's obvious that some of the scenes, the head is more clear and in others it's opaqued with the silver spray.

I believe what you are referring to is the stunt head. The hero head was clear and initially filled with maggots that fell asleep, so the effect was abandoned.

Agreed, I was thinking about those scenes specifically. In some photos posted here though they go from pearl white to silverish maybe just the photos/lighting. What color to go with :confused

Thanks guys. I did place some very mild silvering inside the dome as well as blackening around the edges etc.... It could probably use a bit more silvering but I really like to see the grunge under that dome. That is one of the things that I always loved was catching those details etc....... Makes it look even more horrifying.

I bought one of these a while back on ebay from this guy:

Lucas Francis Studio - Alien

When I spoke with him he stated that he made the masters for the Sideshow and HCG versions. The dome was his own sculpt and they based the head on the one in the Giger museum that has the textured back.

They did about 40 hand painted US models with a neck piece that was sculpted by KNB FX, I was lucky enough to get one of the necks.

I also got the neckpiece, but haven't messed with it much. It needs primer and paint still. I sure would like to do a full figure on this one, but I have no idea where I'd keep it. Dark closet would be my first choice. Missus might divorce me over it however. LOL.
