'Ghostbusters' Costume FINISHED!!

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Those look awesome to me man. I'm not an expert on these props tho. I've been on the Fett kick for the last few years just now getting in on this. To those of you who commented on my gun, thanks for the compliments! when done I'll open my own thread to show it off as to not hijack this one anymore.

Ha! Don't worry, most aren't experts, just really good at acting like experts. Theres so much unknown about these props that it makes you crazy. All you can do is make it look as close to the phots you've got as possible.

Man, I'd love to get on a Fett kick again . . .I saw a suit at Marcon that was all Bobamaker, and I just wanted to hug the guy. His suit was perfect.

I'd start a thread on your gun, cause it looks solid. I'd love to follow along!

True, you do try to make yourself sound like an expert a lot.

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Yep.
The point of the thread is to doctument a build right? Let the pics and costume do the talking.
Check your Egos, and move along.

Its a costume. Its a movie. Its a prop. This is a fun hobby.

If you dont have a nice thing to add, dont add it.

Back on topic, I like the way the belt is coming.

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

I found it to be rude, but at the same time internet sarcasm is the root of almost all online arguments :lol.

I can't tell if it was a joke or not.

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

I have no problem admitting it was rude. It's pretty easy to assume that his comment was directed at me in the first place.

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Everyone needs to focus on the topic on hand. Constructive criticism is great so that people can learn what goes into the best GB costume. Please take any other issues offline.

Thanks,

Bryan

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Hey Rhett,

That's a great costume you're building for Nath there! I've never been into BG stuff, never ever cared but now, I see this and a ton of memories come back up and if I wasn't so much into Star Wars, I'd certainly commission you another one!

Keep up the great work buddy!

Can't wait to see more progress on that very informative and peaceful thread! ;)

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Ghostbusters is great, and the props/costumes are amazing to see completed.

From the pics you've got up here, Hotshot, you've done a fantastic job so far!

:thumbsup

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

If only pictures really were worth a thousand words.

Caveat Emptor.

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Got the Seiko Voicemaster watch master started. This is the oddest, and smallest thing I've ever built. It's fun! This will be cast up in rubber with a nice decal for the face, covered in a small piece of clear plastic. The wrist band will connect with velcro. Should be a nice way to cap off the suit!

Also, please keep this thread on topic. If anyone has a problem with me, send me a PM. We'll talk.
If you've got something constructive to offer, please, be sure to back it up with references, etc.

Please, stay on topic!

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Thanks guys. It's a weird/fun thing to build.
Here's the continued buildup of the watch master.

Yea, I've done an Ecto or two. This has been an experiments, over the last few years, and I'm gearing up for and accurate pair later in the fall. It's gonna be a fun project allll for me. :D

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Wow! I just noticed this thread. Awesome job. Love the foam trap!!!

As for the little black box on the belt circuit, I based mine off of the circuit board they're wearing on the movie poster. If you can find yourself an original poster, not a reprint, it shows the belt circuit quite clearly and those versions have the little black window box on the right most nixie tube. It also shows that they are indeed nixie tubes, not fluorescent tubes like the Sanyo. So they are most likely from the Minolta Minolcom, not the Sanyo, which is nearly identical, but with the segmented digits instead of nixie digits.

I have no idea about the variations they wear in the movie. I just know the ones they're wearing on the poster.

I believe the black box, originated from Playskool's very good replica that is mistaken for an original by many... The black box is on some calculators of that vintage but I fail to see it in any screen shots... And the 'replicas' the original prop department made were just awful...

I snapped off this picture today to compare two different vintage Sanyo calculators for another discussion... The one on the right, is very close the screen used one except for the lower left corner where the screen used one appears to have more discreet components vs the IC chip(s)...

Eight seven segment gas discharge tubes and a single 'E' / overflow tube... Or at least I believe it's an E tube, it's at the shop and I'm back home...

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

Actually the correct version of the calculator was identified on Proptopia, with the black box, but the particular one found didn't have the nixies. I forget what model but it was a Sanyo.

Re: 'Ghostbusters' costume buildup

I believe it was an ICC-805D or something like that... There are two very different units with the same number though, and the casings even look similar. They have vastly different guts.
