Ghostbusters: Afterlife

thanks all, I'm not big on kid heavy movies, I like a handful or so. Going in knowing it will help.

Oh how about the humor factor? If the original GB was a 10. And granted a lot of that was just the amazing quirks of all the actors, where on that dial does this fall? Again, just calibrating expectations. I know it's NOT the original GB of course.

Less funny because it takes the concept of Ghostbusting seriously. The original is funnier because the concept of ghost exterminators is inherently ridiculous. But we are so used to the concept now it's not as funny, so they play it straight.

Hmm I disagree. I thought the movie was full of laughs and there were lots of parts the entire theatre was laughing.

My theater was more dead then the ghosts on screen.. not a single laugh

I clapped when a certain line was said.. and people turned around looking at me like I was a fool..

My biggest gripe..
they threw ever piece of GB nostalgia at us.. everything EXCEPT SLIMER?!? Where the f%ck was slimmer!?!? And I mean they threw every little piece at us.. except him!

Oh… and they did exactly what every GB fan has said never to do…

And they did it..

I was pretty worried and tried to keep my expectations low but honestly loved it. I enjoyed every second. Much like how The Force Awakens was a fun throwback story you get the same here but it feels much more legitimate because you had the original director gently guiding it. There is one very costly cameo that I though might have stuck around a tiny bit longer then was required but really I don’t think anyone can leave this without having a good time. The film drips with sarcasm too which feels right.

The mostly empty theater doesn't help. And the movie is still funny, but the busting scenes are played for action, not humor.

It's set in the wrong city for that, wait for the sequel.

What's that?

I saw it last night and I thought it was excellent! the theatre I was in was completely full too, so that added to the experience. Lots of laughs to be had and lots of tears to be shed for the diehard GB fan. BUT, I was slightly disappointed we didn't get to see the packs vent! I want to see venting packs on the big screen!

To me the bit at the end was done perfectly, and you can tell they used their extra time to perfect that, Nothing about it looked weird or off.

Well, I hadn't heard anything about this until literally one minute ago, reading this thread, but I think it is pretty obvious what this "costly" cameo must be.

Not technically a spoiler, since this is only a semi-educated guess, but ...

... I presume we are talking about an all- or partially-CG Harold Ramis.

LOVED IT!! the music especially made this movie for me, brought back the music fromt he original very nicely. Sirgorney Weaver is listed in the credits but I dont remember her in the movie at all.

Did you leave early? She shows up in an end credits scene.

wow look at all these spoiler tags lol. LOVE IT!!

There was this one particular line that was asked towards the end of the movie. I was sad coz I was the only one shouting the answer LOL. Should havce been an answer any gb fan would know.

Well... They did the ONE THING they never should've done, & in doing so, proved that I was completely wrong for thinking they shouldn't have done it .

The movie was it's own thing to me, just in the fact it wasn't set in New York. It was recently that I realized how much New York attitude was a HUGE part of the DNA of the '84 film. I think making AFTERLIFE a rural setting was key in differentiating it from I & II, but still showing it to be a part of the same narrative.

I can think of a couple things to nitpick, but I could do that with the original film as well, so I'm overall pleased & will have repeat viewings for sure.
