Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Agree, I’m not gonna lie I laughed a few times through it.

I hate being a negative Nelly… I’m really hoping to enjoy afterlife

But the more and more I see im just like “why?” I have “a force awakens” feeling about this one

Praying im wrong, I just can’t see any ghostbusters movie without egon
I enjoyed the movie overall too. It certainly wasn't great, but it had its moments. My big complaint about it was that it didn't need to be a reboot, just a line or two here and there and it's a sequel without affecting any of the movie's plot or scenes. The 3 women could have bought the franchise off one of the originals, one or more is a daughter of one of the originals, lots of possibilities that just a couple of lines could have made the movie more palatable to die-hard Ghostbusters fans.

I want to love it. I really want to be able to find something truly great in the continuation of one of my favorites but history has taught me to approach with caution. So far I haven't seen anything that I left me with an uneasy feeling in my stomach. But I'm going to aim low and just try and enjoy myself as best I can.
I also think because I over hype movies going in I’m always disappointed because it’s not what I was thinking or hyping

So I’m going to go into with zero hype, hopefully come out over the moon lol

Exclusive clip from Hasbro PulseCon from today...

It’s looking pretty fun. After the last outing and the fact that Sony is making it (their track record for reboots in general is spotty) I have set the bar pretty low. One way or another I can already tell that the production design alone is enough to hold my interest throughout.

IMO the 2016 remake was a blessing in disguise.

Sony got to indulge all their bad-remaking urges on another GB project and get it out of their system. Now the traditional fans can completely ignore that one. And the only ideas left in the tank for their next attempt (GB Afterlife) are the ones we want.

The funny thing is that Jason Reitman actually thanked Paul Feig for the 2016 film because he said it was "like the scene of a SWAT team busting into a room, and the 2016 film was the first guy to get mowed down."

OK, I have not seen the film, so I am not sure if this should be "spoilers" or not, but the online I am getting from GBA is that...

it is basically The Force Awakens for Ghostbusters. Lots of nostalgia nods, a new/ young cast with peppered-in original elderly actors and characters, just basically a redo of the first film with the same ending. I've seen some surprisingly harsh criticism/review online, that it's just a rehash of the 1984 epic, but with kids

That doesn't mean it will be a disappointing film. But IF it mainly strokes the member berries more than anything else, without being a solid film on its own (i.e. if there is the nostalgia crutch looms large), then I would be disappointed.

I can't wait for friday for the first screenings here in Singapore. Adam's videos on the props and everything else have got me pretty pumped. My proton pack is ready for it's outing on friday.

I personally thought it was wonderful. I retract my statements earlier in the thread about the ghost designs and the stay puft scene.

Sitting in the theatre as the end credits roll. Go see this movie! This is the true sequel to Ghostbusters! It was just what I wanted it to be. Hit all the right nostalgia beats and the new characters were all pretty awesome. I'll definitely see it again in the theatres.
