This was one of my first original prop projects. UFO remains one of my favorite shows - because I grew up with it. thanks to Shawn Morgan I learned a lot about building and casting. I am going to retool a new master and fix a few details and streamline a new cleaner kit. This is more of an art project than a for profit run. I need to improve my skills. The RPF is a constant inspiration for a creative outlet.

Gordon, I'll be looking forward to your next attempt at it, as well as the rifles! (hint, hint).
I'd talked a good friend into building Straker's rifle for me, but it didn't get too far before becoming a real b**ch! He's started on a wooden prototype of his own pistol instead. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

Can you post me a pic of the rifle. I'm in the process of working with aluminum now. Its a real pain. but the possibility's for prop guns could be endless. and I know there's a pic of it somewhere in this thread. but I'm feeling a little lazy...LOL

I noticed this thread hasn't been touched since 2013 but I thought there might still be people interested in the gun. I started watching UFO for the first time a few months ago and couldn't help obsessing over the gun. So here are progress shots starting with the 1960 Edison cap gun. I even made both front ends (I don't know if you would call it a flash hider or a silencer in this case). I am in the process of still finishing it and upgrading to actual wooden handles off this same design.

I have not watched the show in a very long time but if I remember correctly the things on the end were not silencers. When I first the the pistol that is what I thought they were but I think the pistols made a regular gunshot sound. But as I'm getting on in years and can't always remember things for way back then I could very well be wrong.

You are COMPLETELY right... all the guns were quite loud. They aren't flash hiders either honestly because the flame came out the front. I just wasn't sure how to address them since they seemed to have no direct purpose but at the same time they changed in the show. I guess we could consider them as two different guns and maybe some sort of heat sink to absorb the heat of the shot. Since it had no apparent purpose I think at this point it is all speculation.

There were definitely at least two different designs, not counting the small pistol. There were the regular pistols, and Straker's acoustic 'blank' pistol, which had some minor differences.

You never saw any empty casings for any of the guns in the show, except for the real guns. So I wondered if the guns, both Earth and Alien might be chemically powered LASER weapons. In one episode, an Alien shot out a Moonbase window, but a LASER could have been used to fire the rock, like with t he proposed LASER powered rockets.
