General Doctor Whoniverse Discussion

Yeah, I sort of ignored this story with cautious skepticism for a while but today the BBC started reporting it themselves so that gives it traction. I hope it's true!

Red sonic.

Looks to be a bit of a throwback...it bears a striking resemblance to the butt end of a 3rd or 4th Doctor-era Sonic, although the red at the very end could be the emitter...

The noticeable lack of Rose shots (both from set stalkers and official) make me think Moffat's going for a big reveal there. Like an alternate alternate Rose who never met 9 or 10....but met Hurt.

Every now and then a sonic comes along that is so uninspired that I do not feel a need to add it to my collection. By the sound of this Doctor who is not the Doctor description that we have gotten, the red thing on the end is probably a stun/kill setting!

Thank goodness as I am already anticipating a 12th Doctor's sonic to come along very soon.

Let's all remember that we've only seen two inches' worth of this Sonic so far...and if the poster's not lying to us, it should light up, so maybe the back end harkens back to the Pertwee/Baker eras, but the front end could look a little more new-Who...or possibly a shout-out to the alternate Big Finish sonic. Of course, that could also just be wishful thinking on my part...

In any case, I'm also looking forward to what they come up with for Capaldi's Doctor...and hoping that the Smith sonic goes out as cool as its forebears did...

What's to say 12 gets a new sonic? 9 and 10 shared one, and 12 probably isn't going to be as radical of a show overhaul as 11 was.

Not saying I'm opposed to a new sonic, I'm just not automatically assuming there will be one.

I can't really say why, but I feel like Capaldi's Doc is going to be a bit of a different personality to Smith, so having a new sonic might be part of establishing him as 'different'. I'm still hoping they know what they're doing with Hurt, because there's a lot of potential for this twist to go very wrong.

All the Doctors apart from Tennant and Smith are other actors in the new trailer. Well, the ones we see anyway. They look very good. Wonder if we see them in the programme itself.

I noticed these props from the trailer:
Co watch
Co 11 Sonic
16twelve Sonic
MFX sonic? (too blurry to tell)
Co 3 Sonic
"Licensed" Tardis Key
Co Masters
Co Foster? (too blurry)

Conclusion: the effects people in charge of this 3D whizz-arround of Who's history didn't have access to the actual props (understandable in the case of early keys and sonics) and using licensed replicas was easier than modelling accurate virtual props from scratch?
