***NEW UPDATE - HAMMERBURST FINSHED - Details on page 5 - POST #43****
Hello All,
As movie crazy as I am, I also love Gears of War. And seen as how there is a distinct lack of replicas out there from GOW, I decided that if I can’t buy, I will make!!!!!!
So i’ve been working on my first ever replica, The Gears of War Locust Hammerburst Gun, I have never attempted anything like this before, and it still needs a load of work.
However I’ve scratch built it, mainly using sheets of ply and mdf. I’ve kind of interpreted a load of the detail and shape so far, and it’s not what I would call screen accurate. However so far it’s been a fun project, and I’m learning all the time about scratch building.
I guess if I were to do it all again, I would do my homework a little more, and layout a few drawings, but instead I rushed into the project, without realising that the two reference pictures I was using, were in actual fact completely different. So the gun has ended up being a mix of the two drawings.
What started off three months ago as a ½” sheet of ply, is now what you see below/
I’m using sculpey for the detailing, as I like using this clay. Its great to work with, although being as inexperienced as I am, I don’t know if this was / is the best material to use. I find car body filler (Bondo??) great but a little sticky and too fast setting to work with.
Anyway, a definite WIP, so stay tuned for more updates!!!!
Any advice or suggestions will be gladly received, bear in mind that I am a novice, and I am not going for exact screen accuracy, just my own interpretation.
And that there is a long way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***UPDATE 19/01/08***
Well after some late nights i've finially managed to get the Hammerburst into an almost complete state.
I've primed the gun, ready for a boat load of filling and sanding. Here are some pictures taken tonight of the progress so far.
Still have a few wee bits and bobs to add on to the Hammerburst. They are ready to be fitted, but like i said i've a load of filling and sanding to do, before they are fitted, and then its out with the airbrush for a paintjob.
Let me know what you think!!!
Thanks
Gordy
