Ok, this is my first thread posting, so be kind!
I attended MisCon in Missoula Montana over Memorial Day weekend and met George R. R. Martin (author of Game of Thrones series). They also had a prop of the Throne at the convention too. I decided last minute to make a costume inspired by Queen Cersei's outfits. From pattern drafting to finished project it took about two days, but I was sewing up until 10 minutes before entering the convention costume contest (won Judges "Special" award, whatever that means).
When I started researching costumes from the HBO show, I discovered that most of Cersei's gown were almost the exact same pattern/shape, but I decided not to go with an exact replica, but rather what I though might be a logical gown in her wardrobe.
The basic design of the gowns is a cross front gown with princess seam front and back, with side inserts of a contrasting fabric that curves over the hips. The sleeves are one piece fitted at the upper arm and flared below the elbows. It is kinda asian/medieval, with the cross front and pointed sleeves at the bottom. Then the inner sleeve is lined with the contrasting fabric from the sides of the gown.
Everyone at the convention got to pose for photos on the throne, so how could I resist!
