Galaxy Quest Vox display

Ok, so I just put a plasma disk into my Pegasus model version Vox and yes it was a big ol' pain. So now I want to get the face to be screen accurate as well and not just look like the face of the plasma disk. In the movie it appears to be a crackle glass or speckled sand kind of finish. Does anyone know exactly what it was?

It was the plasma disk they used.

The ones in the movie were hand made like the larger Plasma disks you can buy. The inside was made with random glass beads that gave it that look. I don't think there is anyway to create that look to a pocket plasma disk.

My friends borrowed all of my copies, so I’m gonna take a look at it when I get one of them back. I'm sure some sort of thin textured layer could help re-create that effect.

YouTube - Galaxy Quest Vox Plasma Disk Movie Prop If this is accurate, I would get a clean flat workspace and make a few(3-5) layers of Liquid latex, or something else that will dry clear, and on the last few layers(4-8), I would add some glitter dust (really fine, or crushed) and i would then peel it off and add it to the front of your plasma disk, then trim. That looks to be what i see.

I think that RedShirt has the hero prop, and we need to find him to ask what it looks like.
