I've got a Galaxy Quest Vox Communicator in progress based upon the real prop parts I bought. Here's what it looks like so far.

The lid arm and hinge will be created next and pressure-cast molding to follow.

This what the label will look like on the box.

Since this kit is based on real studio prop parts and made with quality pressure cast resin techniques, etc. you can be sure this is the best and most accurate kit.

I also have the original hero props for the Thermian and TV Series Nebulizers, but I don't have a Surface Scanner. If anyone has any pics or info on the Surface Scanner, please let me know.

I wish. That would make it look like the closeup FX insert shot done in the movie. Sadly these commercially available 3" plasma disks are abit too big and deep. I know I bought one and tried to get it to fit.

I do have 3 (yes 3!) of the 2-1/4" specially made Luminglas disks props made for the movie. The shot with Tim Allen in the Thermian transporter room using the Thermian working Vox was done by having the backplate off the Vox and stuffing this luminglas disk, made by Strattman, in the back with it hooked up to a Strattman transformer.

However, the lighted prop kit I'm making here does have the exact "lightning graphic" as on the hero light up Vox's props used by the prinicipal actors in the Galaxy Quest movie in all the non insert FX shots. I'm basing this all off real props, and my kit is as authentic as it comes. It'll be like getting a real movie prop with this kit.

Bummer about the luminglass 3" thing not working. No way to modify or cut down the 3" luminglass things to work?

I wouldnt mind an "FX" version with a deeper back to fit the little battery back and transformer.

I may offer an optional textured glass lens for the kit to make it look very close to the FX shot, minus the lightning effect. The superbite LEDs would flash behind the lens and give an effect very similar to the lightning effect. That may be what you'd like.

The plasma disk can be cut down diameter-wise, but it might unsealed the glass disk halve areas and give you separated front and back back glass parts. Not what you want. The mini transformer even without the plastic housing is just way too deep, unless a modded back is made for this. Maybe after the kit comes out someone will find an answer for that, but I think you'd be satisfied with the textured glass lens setup too.

The static backlit graphic is the true genuine prop replica version and that will be what is done for the kit. I'm shooting for a true prop replica with this kit and it will be identical to the originals used in the movie.

If I can offer some suggestions or options for a "FX shot style" buildup, that will be done as an option.

The last of the prototype fabrication will probably be finished by this next week. I'll post pics then.

I'll have some cool desktop images to put on your computer too.

That textured glass with a flashing LED behind the graphic sounds like a good compromise. Can't wait to see it done.

I'll be launching a website that will let you watch mine and others buildups be posted. I know everyone is eager for pricing and that will come soon, I promise.

Just to keep myself motivated on this project, I've created some cool Galaxy Quest computer desktop images that'll I share with you. You can get them from the site link above. Let me know what you think about them. I'll probably be adding more to the site in the next few weeks.

Well, they're all hero kits really. I'm calling the kits Basic and Hero, but the only difference is without and with electronics. They will all resemble hero kits to the millimeter.

Thanks. I got your email and you're added to the alert list as soon as price/dates announced.

They are shaping up nicely too.

BTW anyone lese who wants immediate notice so they get first shot at Vox's should email me at tomstrong123@yahoo.com and I'll add you to the alert list.

There will only be a limited amount of these made, and after it sells out they'll be done. These will hold value as a collectible.
