Galactica studio scale models at Wonderfest 2008

Just read this on the Wonderfest website: "studio scale Galactica modelers recreate the classic BSG armada!" Anyone know exactly who's models are going to be displayed?

Good question.

I'll kick in a Rising Star if someone wants to pay my airfare from Los Angeles.

On the other hand, given the price of a ticket from LA to Louisville, it would probably be cheaper for the Wonderfest committee to commission their own Rising Star.

Geez, look at all that lint on the mirrored base of the Rising Star. Obviously doesn't care enough to get a cover for the thing........

What I get for letting my kid play with it in the sandbox.

Isn't that the "new" Rising Star?

No, it's a restored casting of the original (Apogee) miniature.

I posted pix here a few months ago, then yanked them after the thread incited a flame war between rival BSG geeks. Now that the ruckus has died down I figured I'd give it another shot.

Very cool. I never really saw it looking like that.

Thanks for the pic. Got any more?

That's a gorgeous model. Are commissions available? I assume there's not much chance of a kit?

Cheers,
Martyn

The model pictured is a one-off, and thankfully I'm not in the kit making biz.

The Rising Star does seem to have its share of fans, some of which are talented model makers, so the prospect of a kit is probably not out of the question.

In any case, copies of the model pictured above will not be hitting the shelves any time soon.

That'd be nice. Civilian starships are a relatively rare subject. (Or at least, liners are.)

Yeah, I pretty much figured that it was a special deal. For one thing we'd already have seen something like the Narcissus frenzy of a few years back, otherwise. Oh well - I'm glad that the species is a bit less endangered than it was, anyway. :)

Thanks for posting the first pic; would love to see more if you can find the time.

Cheers,
Martyn

Yeah, I’ve always had a thing for the “romance” of civilian spaceflight as exemplified by craft such as the Rising Star, the old Disney TWA Moonliner, the PanAm Space Clipper, the Spindrift, the Phloston Paradice, the ships in WALL-E, etc.

would love to see more if you can find the time.

Don't worry, I haven't forgotten... :)

BTW, getting back to the thread's title, what is the scoop on the alleged Wonderfest BSG display? Is anyone here involved with the fest, or know someone who is? If such a display is in the works I'd love to hear more details.
