Future Threads (costume book) Patterns

I just received a book that I had as a teen (that was stolen..lol) which introduced me to costuming. It's called "Future Threads" by John L. Flynn. It was written for the costuming novice and includes costume patterens from some classic movies and t.v. shows,I'll list them at the end of the post. The patterens are from the actual costumes at the respective wardobe departmens at the studios. I plan on scanning them into a pdf file since the book is out of print and making it aviliable to any one who wants a copy(NOTE to MOD's it is out of print and can be difficult and expensive getting copies) for those that will say this belongs in the junk yard please understand that I am not asking for money doing this. I will not post the pdf here since that would be against the rules(unless the mod's say it's cool).
Here are the costumes inside the book:
1)Star Trek Cadet Uniform
2) Star Fleet Leisure Wear:
Kirk's off duty outfit from Star Trek 3
Spock's Robe from the same movie.
3) Klingon Duty Uniform
4) Logans Run :Runners costume and the female tunic/skirt from the movie and t.v show.
5)V also called Visitors (from the mini-series) Costumes
6) Doctor Who: Tom Baker version,Waist coat plus Slacks.
7)Star Wars:
Darth Vader: Robe and Tunic and Cape
Han Solo Vest and Slacks
Princess Leia Gown seen in the Help me obie one hologram.
This book list all the correct matirals and step by step instruction on making them.
So any one interested?

Definitely interested...hopefully the patterns would be as accurate as they sound, if they truly came from studio wardrobe pieces.

Especially interested in:
3) Klingon Duty Uniform
So long as it's not the crappy pattern I saw 15 years ago from a "fan club" that looked like a children's 1-day halloween costume.

Well thats one. The patterns are designed for the noob, but what will really make the costume pop is the walk through process the author gives you with hints and tips for making a top notch costume.

Thats two. As I said above the patterens are designed with the noob in mind so they are easy. It just maybe the same pattern that the "fan club" used,I dont know. Follow his tips and it should come out alright.

I am trying to do some thing nice here by sharing the book that got me interested in costuming . It was made by a sci-fi fan and the sketeches shows it. So if you dont like the book just delete it and remember it did'nt cost you any thing.

I start scanning it in on monday.

I'm very interested, particularly in the Tom Baker stuff. Do you know which coat/slacks of his it is?

Thanks for putting this out there.

I downloaded and took a quick look thru it, and gee, the STAR WARS patterns are grossly inaccurate! No butt seam on the Han Solo pants, the pockets on the vest are completely wrong... Not to mention obvious things like why does Leia's gown have a sash???

I don't know if everything else is as off-model as the stuff I looked at, but I would say proceed with caution with anything reproduced from this source!

My 2 cents

Rick

Yea, I'm going to have to agree that the patterns aren't accurate. Still, it's the thought that counts, and it was cool to look through it. Thanks for uploading it.

Hey no problem on the 2 cents every one gets their say here...lol like I said the book was design for those with littleto no experiance, but if you read the text portion it explains how to make it look right.
I have seen costumes made from this book and they can come out very good if you put the time into it. Like Risu said it's the thought that counts..lol I just wanted to share what got me into costuming. :lol

I'd be interested in seeing the Klingon patterns. Their costumes are actually pretty easy, it's just all the stuff piled up on the basic shell, that make them look complicated! :D

Let me add my thanks Eradicator for making this available! I just downloaded and printed it out, and while there may be some inaccuracies in the patterns, I think overall it's a cool book. I'm looking forward to reading the author's notes about his examinations of the original costumes. And maybe I'll finally make the Kirk casual movie outfit...

Thanks again!!
