I've been working on a full-scale Keyblade (Kingdom Key, from Kingdom Hearts) for almost a year and a half now, made using cardboard, paper, and plaster of Paris (and a piece of wood in the core of the blade).
The problem is... It's ridiculously heavy. It's almost done; just a few details and strengthening the handguard. I tried to slam it against a wooden wall, softly, and it didn't fall apart (luckily).
Are there any other materials I could use for a similar project in the future? (which is a full-scale replica of the Type-3 Phaser Rifle used in Star Trek: Voyager) I don't mind the weight, but I'm afraid that if I mix things wrong, and slam the weapon against something harder (say, a person. Not that I will...) it might fall apart.
Or is plaster of Paris strong enough?
