Free Paper Props

I think it would be better if there was a secure (members only) paper prop area. Like the OT forum. That might minimize people who troll the boards for free stuff so they can sell it on eBay.

That is definitely an interesting idea. But, I think that would be somewhat limited by the fact that all they'd have to do is register at the next registration and then they could still do the same thing...

Can you think of a way around that too?

At least making them wait for open reg will keep the lazy "quick profiteers" out. It does seem a shame to make it easy for them.... :p

It is frustrating.

it's a bit of the damned if you do damned if you don't.

We go to secret access forums that people can't even read without joining then you have the license folks wondering what infraction is so large that we hide it from prying eyes.

maybe guys who are worried about seeing their free paper props on ebay an hour after thay post could produce watermark or low res images for thread discussion and PM the hi res clean stuff to those memebers who request.

I can check with Synasp and Gita to see if there is a watermark feature we could offer to members to help protect images.

Isn't the OT only available if you're registered? Forcing registration for the freebies would at least make it easier to track down the thiefs and kick them off.

That's true. The OT is only visible to registered members, but the liscense holders know no prop related discussion or trade goes on in that forum. The JY, which could be related to the rights they've purchased, can only be posted in by registered users but can be seen by everyone...

Jedirick is right that this change could make liscence holders uncomfortable. That could in turn be solved by allowing liscence holders to register at any time, but I am strongly against anything that seperates one member from another and since we restrict registration times for regular users I'm personally against allowing liscence holders to register anytime. And allowing everyone to register anytime would negate the whole purpose of this thread.

I personally believe that a watermark would be the best solution here but I don't think we can automate that process. I'm still working on that...

Jedirick, I did that in the past, I was sending the file via email to people that sent me a PM, but I saw several of my items up for sale on Ebay, so, it would be great if we can find a solution, so I can start sharing some more.

Thank you guys for this ideas.

Unfortunately, there will never be anything we can do to stop people from printing and selling items you send them via email. Even if we made the entire forum private, once you send out an unwatermarked file it's out of your and our control. :unsure

What about ask for a self addressed, stamped envelope, with a small payment in stamps (which you can use to mail other stuff out), so you can print out the free prop and mail back to the person? The payment in stamp is for your paper, ink etc.

This way they have a hard copy and not a digital file. They can still replicate it and sell it but its gonna take a lot more effort on their part. Hopefully this will really discourage would be profiteers since they don't seem like the type who likes to do any work at all...

That's interesting, that would work in addition to the watermarks or even just posting low res pictures.

Of course people can still scan a copy when they receive it. But nothing will ever be perfect...

I haven't found a good way to automate the watermark on our side but I am still looking into it.

That would be a nice feature...for an image a member desired to label. Might help track down a few vvultures in the process.
