The first time I got in & drove a Delorean, I had a total Back To The Future geek out.

This looks like an interesting flick. I'll definitely check it out.

Speaking of the Graflex Syndrome. ;) Ironically, I feel I know somewhat what vintage-camera folks feel. I want a DeLorean because it's a DeLorean. I liked them and wanted one before BTTF. And I get so, so tired of people, when they find out I want one, inevitably asking if I'm turning it into a time machine. -_-

Oh, I know. That isn't what I want, though. I offend everyone -- I'm not turning it into a time vehicle, so the geeks are disappointed... But I'm not going for pristine stock, either. Rather, upgraded/modded, which hacks off the "purists". But I've actually researched John Z. and what he wanted to do with his cars (which a lot of purists haven't) and I think he'd approve of my plans. :D

Legend turbo... if they released that car the company would still be around today :(

There was so much he was planning to add to the mix at about the five-year mark. Paint, more interior options, powerplant variants. But yeah, he wanted it to be a twin turbo as standard, so even that V6 would've been better. :/

I'm thinking more of the fact that he didn't want to do model years. Upgrades and tweaks and changes in styling would be incorporated on the fly. So I'm approaching mine as a "what if it had kept going like that -- at least for another five to ten years, if not longer?" thought experiment. Same basic shape and build, but with everything just a little upgraded, from already-done gimmes like the 170mph speedometer to more exotic tweaks, some subtle, some completely invisible, and only a couple that alter the silhouette in any way.

Ok enough talk, let’s see a pic!! ;) I live for this thing

Mine has all the safety upgrades. Electrical is all updated with zilla products (that’s a long time ago now)

I have collected parts to carb the stock motor I have

But one day would love a carb’ed stage 2. Or if I could figure out how to hook up a fast xfi, or Holley system is go that route..

Now learning 3d modeling I want to make some brackets to fit some strange brake calipers on it, never liked the braking on it..

I can’t find it.. I have it on a old hard drive somewhere

John is looking down in the open engine bay of dmc 502 with the twin turbos. He’s already in trouble at this time, and this car has proven power.

You can see he’s looking at the car and thinking “this will save us”

Too bad it never got off the ground...

Wish I had the pic

Well, as I said, I still need to get the car to actually work on. *sigh* I hate the thought of spending over ten grand on something I'm just going to tear down the frame. It'd be nice if the panels and underpanels were intact and undamaged, it'd be nice if the interior was reasonably intact and mildew free... A non-runner would be preferred, because I'm putting a new motor in it, but the further away it is, the more cost-effective it would be to get one in running but shabby condition.

All I could really show at this point is a cabinet full of boxes and packaging and a spreadsheet of sources for various other parts and services. And maybe a few things that inspired me for one element of my build or another, but I don't want to go into those too much without being able to show them in-context on the car, lest people draw erroneous conclusions.

The DeLorean Motor Company provided vehicles, technical support, and the actual restored Prototype #1 for this movie. I can’t wait to see it.

Crazy... no kidding! I was at the DMC Texas location years ago during an open house. It was so cool to see rows of DeLoreans in their shop and racks of parts in their warehouse.

The only thing I don't like about the modern DMC is they don't like to work with rebuilders much. I asked if I could consult with them (I'd pay for time, of course), get parts... Even take unusable pieces off their hands that would otherwise be garbage to learn from, practice with, check measurements... Nope. "Send your car in and we'll do an all points inspection and restoration." Won't hire out the expertise, and unwilling to sell doors or body panels or what-have-you. They do brilliant work keeping the marque alive, but don't seem to have much interest in helping the do-it-yourselfer.

All comes down to money money money...

Rob Grady at PJgrady has been nothing but nice to me over the last 18 years, really going out of his way to explain everything to me. The exact opposite of what your saying with other company’s

When I first bought the car I contacted delorean one, not knowing about Grady, delorean one was the first thing to show up on a google search

And boy he was so rude to me through email I told him I don’t care if the car never runs again, I’ll never give you a dime...

Found Rob, and he helped me restore the car 100% all over the phone and emails with pics

Every nut bolt and washer was been removed from the car, electrical, everything but the glass

Wicked guy

I’m pretty sure the DMC doesn’t want to sell parts to do it yourselfers is because the parts are so rare. Their business is to restore and sell completed DeLoreans. Selling off piece parts cuts into their own business model. Buy a car from them and they’re nothing but helpful and supportive, with technical expertise and spare parts.

I heard the Delorean car company is already working on/and "suppose" to make a "comeback" and start producing them again, I think in 2020?? might be a limited "run".... :ninja: I cant remember where i heard it but it was a car show like "jay leno's garage" or "counting car's" etc.so start saving your money and selling everything NOW!!

Stephen Wynne from Liverpool England who is based in Texas now is and has been building deloreans for years now as he bought the rights to all stock and blueprints years ago for a reported 5 million dollars.

He has an electric project too which at the moment is being stalled by current USA government rules.

The film was hard to find as it was not in cinemas that i could find so i downloaded it, now i,m a criminal like John Delorean was once framed for :)
Loved it to be ohnest even tho i pretty much knew most of the story.

What i did not know and only recently found out online was that the previous government to Prime minister Margeret Thatcher had put in excess of around £90 million into DMC.

Thats a staggering amount of British tax payers money to be granted in the late 70,s/early 80,s to any company.

Also read John Delorean inputted just shy of half a million dollars of his own money, he must have been laughing all the way to the Government...lol

Don’t forget though, that 90mil employed 220,000 people

That’s 220,000 jobs created, stimulated the economy

The whole town was thriving again.. until they closed up shop..

I have a really cool photo well not cool.. but emotional photo of a woman worker crying sitting on a car at the factory when they heard the news they were not re opening
