Forbidden Planet Pistols

The jewelry boxes were later re-used in the Twilight Zone episode "Valley of the mists" then two more times in different episodes of The Man from UNCLE as a mine detector.

They didn't use the jewelry boxes, they attached the mic/camera to a new box with a dial on it. In the Twilight Zone episode they made a super size version to represent the first generation of the device, complete with giant dial. :lol

Robby's car was used in the Twilight Zone episode "The Rip Van Winkle Caper", framed where you only saw the back of it. The driver was also wearing Morbius's clothing.

They used one of the blaster pistols in the beginning of "The Maltese Bippy". They also used the blaster pistols in at least one episode of the Twilight Zone.

Watched FP the other night, and it looks like Adams, Ostrow, and Farman always wore the detailed Command Mic props, and the crew had the dummys.

Anne Francis is looking kinda mangy in that one! :lol

If you take a look at the close up, you can see the 3 star on the back dont set flat. You can see under the edges of it and a shodow of it setting in the air. Take a close look at the rear cap....Kev

I am sure what your seeing is a trick of the lighting, the scanning of this old news print magazine and the sharping I used to crisp up the picture.

The rear star was part of the sculp and thus part of a one part rear cap.

I'm not disputing the 'experts', just adding info:
According to a friend, who owned a screen used blaster (given to him by an MGM prop-master) - the rear cap was all Metal, while the gun's body was heat-formed plastic (about 1/8th inch thick)

I saw that original at comic con...
SNIP
They were very convinced that it was authentic considering who it came from.

The prop put up for auction by PiH is from Bill Malone's collection. Neither the clear emitter tip nor the brass spool are original.

I acquired a casting of this very piece from Malone back in the late 70's. I've also got one of Richard's DR guns, and the two props are remarkably similar as far as the basic dimensions and contours are concerned (as the photos posted here attest). I’d always assumed Richard had gotten a casting off Bill’s gun.

BTW Richard, I’ve collected a lot of hand-props over the years (too many, really), and that blaster remains my favorite. :thumbsup

That would make sense and match up to what I have heard.

I had always heard they were Vacuum Formed bodies , I had no word on the rear cap and as they all look alike felt some casting was possible. Aluminum casting seems most likely.

Any chances of getting some pictures of your friend's Blaster?

Rich

Are you talking about the one in this thread that is considered oringinal??

And is that the one with the replacemnt tip and brass part?

And was that one sold by Bill?

Rich

So then the tip and brass spool is not oringinal??

Then can we be sure of the gun?

I have not found one still with the fat rear cap.

Well I was sure I was not that far off.

The pictures and model I worked off was one of Bill Malone's blasters.

You can see that the sizes of the cone cuts are not even and surely hand made.

This is corrected in a CNC run.

Rich

Yes, yes, and yes.

Is it possible that the blaster above is just missing it's rear cap and what we are seeing is the lip it attaches to?

Sorry I lost my first draft.

Yes that picture is with out the cap.

The cap was in a earlier post.

So just a quick recap here, No one has any proof that they have ever seen or held a real original, and no one can get high quality screen capts , and every one that makes one, says theirs is spot on. :lol

I'm getting more and more interested in this prop everyday. It blows my mind that it's been around for so long, yet we still have very little to go on, in regards to an accurate depiction of this item.

Has any one asked that robby the robot guy ? Maybe he has one.

:lol

I beleive that Rich's FP Blaster replica is by far, the closest to 'accurate' that has been made to date!
