Foam Sculpting My First Bio - Beyond The Final Rung

Will this be used on a half mask? The reason is because I know with my full mask/bio set up, I need that space in the front for the mandibles. I don't have allot of experience with these things, so it may be just the way mine was made. Either way, your doing a banger job here buddy, keep it up!

I have been tied up with work the last few days and have not had the chance to respond as a result. That is changing though and I will be back at it with more progress pics soon as I am nearly done with the mouth area detail and working on the ribs that go up the middle of the helmet. After that I will have the two washer looking thingys on the rear flanges, the inside of the breathing tube port and the laser housing cover to do. As for the laser housing...the one in the drawing is retarded to say the least inless you happened to have a predator with a huge divet in it's forehead it just would not work. I will of course make something more realistic and form fitting that will accomodate a wide enough variety of lasers on the market. The one question I still have to answer is what to do with the inside of the hose port on the lower left jaw? Do I just dress it off with some wierd unknown pred device or run some sort of tube from it to some other location? Anyway, I will figure something out...on to responses.

I'm loving that look inside as much as I like the inside look...keep up the kitbashing!

Thank you Jason. I was hoping for something a little less bulky looking but I have sized the battery area to take up to a 9V holder because it seems that is what a lot of people use and they are thicker than AAA's. It will work for display purposes though.

Wow you are getting some crazy detail going on that man! Looks awesome, cant wait to see more.

Thank you hannay07. The detail is just what I have been able to make from Styrene sheet, strip and tube plastic and Fix-it Stick putty...with a few extra bits and pieces from Lowe's Home Improvement.

Freaking amazing work!

Thank you Folsomaticustom! I appreciate the encouraging words...it has been a challenge but I like the way it is turning out so far.

Thanks Brian, yes my intention has been to put it over a 1/2 mask. Mainly for me personally because I have to wear glasses. I have nothing to gauge it against for fit on a full mask and it will depend so much on the mask itself. There may be some it would fit better than others, I dunno...It is perhaps a bit more roomy in the cheek area than other bios of its kind...by that I mean not as sunken in through the cheeks, but to your point my thoughts are that the room is more needed in the front where the chin and mouth are to properly fit a full mask with the detail inside. It will be interesting to find out. The shape of the interior detail where the mouth is could actually facilitate the mandibles to a point. The pictures are not too good at showing that. Again, I have nothing to check it against but my intention from the start has been that the detail would be more of an interest to the bio displaying/collecting types than the wearing types although it would always be nice if it did fit a full mask...maybe once I have a full mask to fit it on I can do a version 2.0 of the mouth area detail that would limit the size of the battery used. That is always an option as well. :)

I kind of figured it would be used over a 1/2 mask. After I posted the question it dawned on me...there's plenty of people (myself included) that are really only interested in displaying the piece, and this would be perfect for that. Once it's done, if your going to sell any, let me know where to sign up! I have one of Termokk's smaller masks and I'm curious to see how it fits. You've done a remarkable job on this, and I'm sure your more anxious to get it done than we are, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Thanks Brian, I will.

Over my lunch break I snapped a few more pictures of it. The light grey primer definitely makes it easier to see what is going on. I hope you all like it so far...

I made a little more progress last night. I got the inside of the breathing port detail done and the rest of the ribs up the middle. I will next work on the washer thingys for the rear flanges and then the laser housing cover. I will also begin searching for a piece of leather to dress off the inside and then I can set those parts aside and finish smoothing the helmet to prepare it for molding.

Thanks HH...I am trying. Creative liberty is my friend right now for sure. He is quite fun to play with at times... :D

Just a quick update...I got the washer looking thingys done last night...not much but it is progress. Next, I am on to the laser housing cover...even baby steps eventually lead to walking.

[sub]It really is quite the piece. Is it just me or can you almost make out the facial features of a Predator in the inside "electronics" of the helmet in the second picture you posted. It almost looks like a mirror image. I am really stoked about it.[/sub]
