Foam Sculpting My First Bio - Beyond The Final Rung

That thing is freakin' unreal. I still can't believe it's made out of foam and fiberglass. Fantastic job on it bud!!!

Nice progress...the helmet looks great. I like the idea of putting a hole in the mouth for the battery. Looking forward to seeing the detail kit...
I would have to agree. This helmet is just coming along with excellent results. The kit will also be an interesting addition.
This is an incredible looking helmet and an amazing project. I am blown away!

Thank you all...I am incredibly pleased with how it has progressed as well. I had no idea how it would turn out when I started but I am quite excited with how everything has gone so far. I am pretty stoked about it and very motivated to keep going. I absolutely love doing this sort of thing....

Just amazing mate, this could easily be mistaken for a stunt I think loving the lenses idea, maybe on iron man helmet next ? ;-)

I got to tell you, this is just fantastic. Great work man, keep it up.
This is very awesome! I looks really great, keep up the good work :)

Thank you both very much! I thought it would be interesting to put up a pic of what is on the wall of my cubicle at work...this is what I get to stare at and study when things are a bit slow. The latest of mine is obviously on the left.

Dare I say that I have a bit of an obsession???

This is great to see, a great thread, you see , for the diy people, that you can make the same things as others using different materials, it doesnt matter what you use if you take it serious and take your time doing it, you can acomplish things like this, and this bio its made from foam, but its top quality, thats what i think :)

We all do brother, we all do.
I admit it, me too :)~ Every vertical surface around my work bench looks like that too.

I can vouch in this one to, guilt as charged lol awesome work your producing is worth every minute bud

Nice to know I am not alone in this... While it does make it harder to get through the day, it also helps focus my thoughts for what I need to do next on it.

Thanks Jose! For a newbie I am trying to make this the best way I know how. For me this is my version of clay. I too like the fact that there are so many different ways to accomplish these bulds...only limited by the creative abilities of those here on the Lair. With so many helpful and talented people it is a huge benefit to those of us trying to do this for the first time. I have so much to learn and I very much desire to make a good quality bio. Thanks for the kind words. I hope the thread helps some others out as well in the process.

You have some sick skills, I'm really enjoying watching this project progress. If you do offer these in the market place
do you think you'll be doing a custom display stand along the lines of Sideshow and HCG ?

Hey predfreak...yes the thought has crossed my mind for those who more enjoy collecting/displaying a helmet than wearing it. I would like to ultimately be able to provide it with different levels of completeness depending on an individuals preference.

Im absolutely blown away by this! Amazing job. :-D

Thank you TRI_LASER! I am really enjoying pouring myself into the build of this (no pun intended). I want it to be the best I can possibly make it...within reason of course.

I started working on the first piece of interior detail last night. I wish the pictures were better but it is the part that goes in the bridge of the nose area. I like the option of being able to be more creative with this since information about the inside of the helmet is very limited. As a result, I can get away with more variation than on the outside of it. This part is made from .060" Styrene sheet plastic and Fix-it Stick putty (I love this stuff) and sprayed with dark gray primer. Anyway, it is a start.

The cut-out in the chin is sized to fit up to a 3 AAA battery holder (Radio Shack p/n 270-412). The option would exist for smaller rechargeable NiCad phone batteries if desired as well. AAA batteries are very common in the US but I am not sure how popular they are in other parts of the world...do any of my friends in the UK or elswhere have any information to share about such? A 9V battery is considerably thicker than the AAA's so I may investigate the possibility of building the detail to also accept a 9V as well. Again, I love the flexibility to be able to do so. That's it so far...more updates to come...

Na its understandable mate. I know it takes a long time to make one of these from scratch. The process is great. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the final product. :)

A little slower going this weekend because I had to have surgery but I did get some detail work done. Here are a few more pictures of the latest progress. It doesn't look like much in the photos but actually looks pretty cool in person. I can't wait to get one of these completed and painted up. I think the interior detail will reallty set it off.
