Foam question

Hey All,

Been looking for some time and have had no luck so I thought I would ask the group.....

I am in need of several sheets of rigid polyurethane foam... about 2 lbs density...

I am in the Wisconsin area... so if you in my neck of the woods....or close and have a source, please shoot me a PM. I have 4lb sign board but the cost and shipping makes it too expensive to work with at this time....

Looking to use the urethane foam foam as a core with fiberglass over it as a skin....

From what I understand.... The polystyrene (blue) foam can not be used in this manor....

Shoot me ideas! I appreciate any help with this....

Thanks for the link and the idea... I might be able to use this for some details items. but I am actually looking for 4' x 8' sheets of urethane foam..... about 8 sheets in 1" thickness and about 8 in 1/2" thickness. I thought of using the Polyiso foam like home insulation from the local Home depot... but it is foil backed on both sides and the foil is a immense pain to remove...

The foil-backed stuff is styrene too, I believe, and it would melt under the fiberglass as well. The polyurethane foam is petty cool to work with but it is expensive-especially in the quantities you mentioned. It's hard to come by, too. We used a lot of it at work recently and had to order it from Seattle (we're in Portland).
I remember dealing with a company called Industrial polymers Corp.
All Products : Industrial Polymers
They make a product called Styrospray that is meant to be sprayed or brushed over carved polystyrene foam for scenic design and exhibits. It is an acrylic material that can be sanded, bonded, painted, etc. They will send you a sample and info packet.
Hope this info is helpful, good luck!

I've used EPS foam with fiberglas by covering the foam with masking tape. Have you looked at Balsa foam?

Perhaps a pic of the project will help everyone understand why I need full sheets of foam and why I am looking for ureathane rigind foam. basically the body shell is made from foam bonded together... and is then cover with several layers of fiberglass for stiffening....

Hope that helps....

We have a few insulation companies around here.... but most all of them used blown foam insulation or are using the blue polystyrene rigid board. So hasn't helped much...

I have tried my local "Big Box" hardware stores... Home Depot has polyiso board (which is a acceptable trade-off) BUT it comes foil backed on both sides... and the foil is nearly impossible to remove cleanly. Any foil left on foam would allow for delamination of the fiberglass later on... and that is not something I want in this build....
