Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

This is truly a thing of beauty, hold your head high sir, your foam skills are impressive. You don't happen to be in the LA area do you? Man could I use someone of your skill level helping me on my projects.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Absolutly stunning, just amazing. Are you planning a full costume with it? I wanna see it all!!

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Wow, all I can say is this is amazing. I've been watching the entire SG1 series from episode 1. (my nephew has the whole series on DVD) Your work is looking amazing. Great stuff. Makes me want to break out the EPA foam!!

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Very nice !!!!

what thickness foam have you used ?

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Paint! This looks really good. I got to see the original at the propworx auction, and this looks pretty close.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Thank you all for the great compliments They are really appreciated.
As for living in the LA area, afraid not, I am in a small town called Atikokan in Ontario. The thickness of the foam I used for this build is 5mm roll. For some of the raised details I just used craft foam I believe it is 2 mm thick. Which reminds me I still have some raised detailing to do, I better get that done.
I went for close accuracy, lol. Some of the detailing is different but overall I think it is recognizable.
Unfortunately painting will have to wait a week or two, it is way to cold here still to doing any painting, I do not have a shed or workshop so it all has to be done outside and it is -13 (-20 with the wind chill).
I am hoping to do a gold/bronze type finish on it.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Wow! That is incredible work man, and looks really intricate with all the detail work. Was gona use a soldering iron for detailing some foam, but will give the pencil method a try after seeing your helmet! Well done mate! :)

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Are you going to harden the foam with resin or some sort of sealer or just paint directly onto it?

It looks FANTASTIC!!!

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Thanks guys. By the way, anyone who is going to try detailing with a pencil first do a little practice on some scrap foam and also do not have the pencil to sharp, a sharp point can rip the foam a little, I find for best results using a B pencil or even a B1 not to hard and not to soft..

As for painting or sealing. I know everyone swears by sealing the foam, but apart from plastidip (which is expensive) I have never had much luck with sealing. My life size R2 and Wall-e were both painted using Krylon spary paint with out sesaling first and they turned out great.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

On my build I am using latex-base house paint, works great for a flexible seal and prime. and is so much cheaper that plasti-dip and such.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

hmmm. Latex house paint you say, cool. How is it for leaving brush marks though?.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Just wow! I have seen people have a go at this but they never really caught my attention but this sir is awesome!

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.

Thank you very much.
I am currently working on some more raised details I will post pics once I am done.

Re: Foam Jaffa Horus guard headdress.
