Flux Capacitor Upgrade

so I finally wanna look at upgrading what brought me here to this board in the first place.

I think pretty much the whole interior lighting is going to be gutted, since all I used was some LED's and a Small Strobe light kit. The box is fine I'll just need to add the latches outside since what keeps it shut at the moment are 2 screws.

anyway I just wanted to see where I can get started on getting pricing for the interior lighting and a source. I'll post pictures up tomorrow evening since it's late here right now :p

no this is a self built one. I had someone I had meet through a bttf board do the box and gave me a few parts, me and my dad came up with the rest.

I pretty much wanna redo the entire inside

-gut the lighting I have and do all new lighting (though not sure what options there are)
- get the correct yellow spark connectors
-add the latches to the outside, right now 2 screws hold the door shut

trying to go either movie accurate or pretty close to it within reason.

right now I wanna price things out to see what it's going to cost me. But haven't a clue on where to start looking into this upgrade and was hoping for a point in the right direction

Ahhh thanks for the photos. How much is price an option? Are you going for a scratch build or are you looking for vintage surplus? With the costs of the vintage surplus you might do better just getting a DST Flux and retro fitting/ modifying it.

The flux was actually built with Torr high voltage relays, however there are several other veirisons (brands) which look pretty close. The yellow wire is not too hard to find, I would try a hot rod shop or a supplier like jegs.

me personally I'm not the type in this hobby where it has to be exact as seen on screen I'm fine with close enough where it has the look.

I don't wanna get extreme expensive with this upgrade but would like to get something better then whats currently in there to where it still has the look of the one in the movie.

I think originally for what I have now it was under $200 if I remember right.

I've seen pics of the DST one haven't seen it in action or read any reviews on it. To be honest I'd like to try and salvage this one if I can since it was my first prop here and something me and my dad worked on. Is there somewhere where people have there own versions up so I can see what out there and how far I wanna go with it by chance?

Oh I understand.... that will help many here point you in the right direction. Those relays can cost from 75 bucks a piece and up, usually in the 100 dollar mark range and with three of them there is 300.00.

There are a bunch of resin replicas too, several different makers make them, that would be a cheap alternative that would give you more of the proper look. I have never used the resin replicas, but there are some decent ones out there.

Gary might be able to help you, he did some nice ones awhile ago before Parts shut down, not sure if he has anymore laying around or not. I don't think they were ever offerred up for sale though, but it would be worth asking him.

If you wanted too, you could also go for a sequel style flux. That one wouldn't be as hard to make a replica of. You don't need extra connectors and hoses at the top (just the one large center elbow piece).

yea resin ones would be fine, though I still need to learn how to paint a resin piece correctly :p I just never put the right time into one is all.

I figure for the wires I can keep the ends and just get some yellow tubing and reuse them since the gray tubing pops off pretty easy actually. Otherwise it's just figuring out the lighting which I'll have to look more into.

I looked at a review vid of the DST one, I like how they have an easy control switch to control the speed of the lighting which is something I'd like to implement for sure, wasn't liking how bright the lights were though and alot of the comments were saying it doesn't match how the movie is.

A hot rod/race shop might have one wire laying around, I will look around too I might have some extra, I will let you know.

cool thanks. BTW are these the relays? not sure of all the part names..

Also how might I get in contact with gary?

and does anyone know about the clips on the outside that keep the door shut? I'd imagine I can get this at home depot or lowes.

The relays are the glass tubes and the brass colored bases, it is a complete "unit" so to speak. Send me a PM and I will put you in touch with someone who should be able to help with some good quality stuff that I can vouch for!

As for the clips to hold the door, you might want to look at ebay and see if you can find a vintage enclosure, and just swap them over. Keywords like fiberglass enclosure, or Stahlin enclosure, Robroy enclosure, might get you pretty close. If you find a vintage one you can be more accurate to the Part 1 style fluxes.

You need to go to offto55.com it's a bttf forum, mostly for converting the car into the time machine, but it has info on all the individual parts.
